jonnyyyl got a reaction from Antistar in AMD fTPM causing random stuttering.
    Hi everyone.
I reported audio lagging/stuttering issues on my Asus G15 on reddit and stumbled across this thread a while back when trying to find a fix:
With the regedit fix and power mode modification, I am still getting random stuttering.
Has anyone been able to turn of fTPM on their laptops?

    Thanks

Nothing went wrong it's just not stable, clear CMOS and start again. 80C isn't really that hot if you're running a 140mm radiator in an ITX build, real world usage will create temps quite a bit lower than stress testing will. Considering 1.35V is probably average for a 7700K at 5GHz it's not that surprising it wasn't stable at 4.8GHz 1.23V.

    1) Warning: Don't mix metals. Liquid metal + copper have nasty reputation.
More info read here (CLICK ME !)
    2) If it doesn't boot, reset bios CMOS. You probably are running in a low voltage overclock failure.

The secret is to totally not care even if the good silicon chips dies and you have to go buy a new one. That is the pic I took shortly before I delidded an i7 7700K

First of all, make sure you use the right units. 1 M-Bytes-ps is equal to 8 M-bits-ps

Yes, very heavy excel, running trading software such as bloomberg and interactive brokers 24/7, which uses a lot of RAM, frequent use of photoshop and autoCAD/sketchup, a lot of Chrome and Firefox.

side question, do 1800x and threadripper support ECC memory? can the benefits be tangibly felt?

You might Blue Screen or Freeze but you're not going to damage parts because you're using too little voltage (in fact, Undervolting is something that many people do to cut down on heat and power draw).

start by using Aida 64 to make sure the core drop isn't from thermal throttling, if it's not I would start by going into the BIOS and restore default settings, then return to windows and adjust the power plan to run on High Performance (on Windows 10 this can be done by typing "power plan" into the Windows Search, the "best match" will be "choose a power plan" click on that and it will open the control panel window to the main Power Options page, there is a click down for "Show additional plans", typically the "HIgh Performance" plan is hidden under the additional plans so click to show additional plans and select that plan, that should lock your core clock all the way up unless you are thermally limited and throttling from heat (which Aida 64 will show you).

If you are manually setting your clocks  you need to check your voltages because most likely the board is automatically setting them for you if left on Auto. This can be very bad because even minor manual overclocks usually cause the bios too push more volts then is needed to achieve those clocks if voltage is left on auto.

Also are you aware that the 7700k will auto  boost to 4.5ghz at stock ? Atm you are not necessarily overclocking anything considering stock speeds will boost to 4.5ghz when needed.

    1. No. M.2 is a slot. It's comparable to the SATA connector, but not the SATA interface. An M.2 slot can either provide a SATA connection or a PCIe connection (or in less common cases also some other stuff).

    2. NVMe is a storage protocol, which is the sort of software layer on top of the electrical connection. In this case, an SSD on a PCIe connection can use the NVMe storage protocol, or the older AHCI protocol. Not sure what you mean by "SSDs or M.2" as an M.2 SSD is still, you know, an SSD. Maybe you mean 2.5" vs. M.2. 3D NAND is just the type of flash memory inside the SSD, obviously any kind of SSD can use it. Even USB flash drives can use it.

    3. Should be some boards on the enthusiast platform that can do PCIe 3.0 x16/x16. Not that it really matters for the vast majority of uses.

    4. Theoretical maximum is 15.75 GB/s to be exact. There's still a little bit of encoding overhead, even though PCIe 3.0 has moved from 8b/10b to 128b/132b encoding. Running an NVMe M.2 drive on PCIe 3.0 x4 will not see a bottleneck. I think you may be confusing bits and bytes here.

    5. You can have more than 2 M.2 NVMe SSDs. But yes, it gets awkward for a variety of reasons.

A PCIe 3.0 x4 connection has a bitrate of 32 Gb/s, which is equivalent to 4 GB/s. Due to encoding overhead, the maximum usable throughput is 3.94 GB/s.

The fastest M.2 NVMe SSDs can only transfer at around 2.7 GB/s.

If you want a very simple loop get one or two ekwb predators with quick disconnects, 2*280mm kits would cool pretty much anything.  Then get the gpu block kit (pre-filled) and slap it on your gpu.  Connect the cpu cooler and you are good to go!  If you have a dual cpu setup you'll actually be able to run both off of the loop as you'd have 2 cpu blocks and 1 (or more) gpu blocks.

"It's also worth noting that even with a suitably equipped motherboard, Ryzen's maximum 32 PCIe lanes—16 for graphics, four for NVMe, four to communicate with the chipset, and an additional eight from the motherboard—is less than the 40 of Broadwell-E and Kaby Lake. It's not a deal breaker right now, particularly as SLI and Crossfire aren't as appealing these days, but the rapid proliferation of PCIe-based storage means PCIe lanes are quickly becoming a prized commodity."

Looking at both the C7 and the L9i suggested above, it doesn't get much better, if at all, in this form factor, so I'd just get the cheaper C7. Regardless of which one you choose, your CPU will need as good of ventilation as it can get, so take care when building.

well all the cpus for that socket are as low profile as it gets: ~5mm (which is less than amd cpus because PINSSS)
    but joke aside:
the only coolers I know are the noctua L9i and the cryorig C7, but AFAIK the cryorig is the better one

Yes, with a bigger radiator the components are cooled better because the surface area is bigger and can transfer heat to more air.

With a smaller radiator, yeah technically the radiator would be warmer and thus in theory also the air right around it. But it doesn't result in higher temperatures in the rest of the case or outside it. It's heating up a smaller amount of air and thus, even if that air reaches a slightly higher temperature, the overall amount of heat it's given off is actually a little lower.

Have you tried turning the screens both to either horisontal or vertical to see if there's any change? Might simply be a driver issue or perhaps even firmware. Its still in its infancy so a few bugs is to be expected.

This is how my Kova's driver looks like. I've highlighted "Assign a Shortcut" option which you use for single keys. As you can see, my BF3/4 profile has several shortcuts assigned.

Also, in macro editor you can edit timings from 1ms to anything above. I can say for sure that 1ms is much faster that normal key press made by you. And editor recording doesn't include time delays between presses. So the issue isn't with driver software. It must be either hw/sw error in mouse itself (check if you can update firmware from driver software). Or it might be that you are using mouse with USB3 port. In that case, try using USB2 instead. It might work better.

jonnyyyl reacted to Sauron in How does the i7 Skylake's graphics while gaming?
It depends on a lot of factors, but in games the framerate depends a lot more on the gpu. Assume that the i7 will never bottleneck a gpu significantly, so whatever benchmarks you can find with your card using a desktop i7 or better will reflect your performance.  If you mean the integrated gpu, there are benchmarks for that too, but as others said if you plan on using the igpu you're better off with a 5775c - their gpus are simply better, no driver update will ever change that. As for temperatures, the max load temperatures with the stock cooler will be around 80 degrees C unless you use a stress test like prime95 (don't, it could damage your chip). Other temperatures depend exclusively on the specific cooler, you can find them in the reviews for each cooler usually.
