Also, if Netflix were to start harassing me with text messages asking for me to input codes to keep watching a show or similar such nonsense, I would just cancel and find other ways of consuming the content I want.

This sounds like they're either pulling numbers out of their ass or assuming people who pirate and/or use their family/friends' accounts would pay for those services themselves, which is an idiotic assumption to make. Such a nonsensical claim.

TimeOmnivore reacted to Sauron in Blizzard bans pro hearthstone player for supporting Hong Kong protests
I mean... the rule basically just says "we can ban you at our discretion". Which of course they can - that doesn't make it acceptable.
And yet they have taken a side and it's a little naive to ascribe less power to a massive corporation than to a politician. It's also absurd to assume they have no political interests - they absolutely do, they are interested in any and all politics that will make them more money.
Except it's not. This is extremely political (not that there's such a thing as apolitical actions) - and, unlike YouTube banning nazis, this is actual censorship because it's enforced by the Chinese government through economic pressure on companies like AB.
It's not being spun, everyone dumping on Blizz knows exactly how things stand. It doesn't matter if they are technically in their right, it's still an awful thing to do.
Nah, they could do whatever they wanted. They don't risk going broke any time soon, they're just greedy, soulless bastards who value money they don't need over human rights.
Hardly an excuse for the encouragement of human rights violation. You could use that argument to defend slavery if it held any water.
I think there's plenty of reason to be mad about this even without the lies.

It should be up to the student to decide if they want their phone to be a distraction or a helpful tool. Being able to quickly google something can be better than stopping the entire class to ask a trivial or off topic question so even though most people would prefer to distract themselves with their phones I think we shouldn't punish those that would use their phone to aid their learning.

TimeOmnivore reacted to Sauron in Leaked Draft Shows potential Internet Censorship in the US.
That's government control of the internet, AKA actual censorship. And remember that if these companies are "held accountable" for what they take down they will also be held accountable for what they put up.

It's censorship by definition my dear. I know you people have been whining about "censorship" on twitter or youtube but while that is just a bunch of businesses acting upon their right not to host any given content, this would be the government deciding what is and isn't allowed to be on the internet, which is what censorship actually is.

I really don't understand how "encryption should not come at the expense of the public’s safety." makes any sense?
Encryption literally ensures the public’s safety and privacy.

TimeOmnivore reacted to Origami Cactus in Elder Scrolls No More - New US Bill to proposed to ban Infinite Scrolling and Autoplay
I don't like these rules at all. There are much more important issues that need to be fixed, and they concentrated on infinitely scrolling feed? The issue itself lies somewhere else.

That is just straight up a stupid sentence. This is something on the im14andthisisdeep level. It sounds smart if you don't think about it, but the more you think about it, the stupider it gets.

TimeOmnivore reacted to Sauron in Cyberpunk's creator slams critics who claim Cyberpunk 2077 is racist / inaccurate to the source, refutes their claims
I wouldn't see this as a contradiction, stereotypes aren't what I'd call "authentic". The writer could have meant that, in attempting to recreate a stereotype, the resulting character doesn't come off as a real human being. Note that I have no clue if this is true or not, I haven't seen the trailer - I'm simply saying it's not inherently contradictory.

There's no such thing as an apolitical game and there has never been; it's particularly absurd to expect that of a game based on stories that, from everything I've heard, extensively delve into social commentary. What you mean by this is "I like it more when games/games critics agree with me politically" - either that or you have an extremely superficial outlook on the art form and quite frankly you're missing out.

With that said the criticism by RPS seems a little excessive to me - it's perfectly possible there are some unhealthy tropes in the game but it doesn't seem to be any worse than countless other games in this respect. Perhaps it should have been framed more as a missed opportunity than intentional racism.

Then you'd have no GTA, Witcher series, Metal Gear Solid series, Scarface.....

The other counter argument is that games are works of art, a reflection of the artist's point of view. Some points of view are meh, others interesting, and some downright ugly.
