Tiny Core Linux, but i'm sure you could get a better notebook for free if you look around on the webs.

Ubuntu is love reacted to brwainer in Hidden Network Less Secure?
This can create a security risk for your laptop, phone, etc when away from your network. When a device wants to connect to a hidden network, it has to send an unencrypted initial packet to the AP saying “if you are MySecretNetwork, I would like to connect”. And since your device doesn’t know where or when it should expect to connect to your network, it will send that out to every single hidden network you come across. So anyone malicious can run a program on their computer that listens for those messages then creates the SSID your device is trying to connect to. Also, on some devices this can have a measurable effect on battery life.

Rip your power bill 0.0 no idea where you live but with the power that pools you could build a new server every year 😂

Do you have 32GB free on your boot drive? Did you do a bios update?

(if you update the BIOS, do it with the old stick just to be sure)

Ubuntu is love got a reaction from Zapthos_ in Is it bad to flip the switch on the PSU every day?
Nope should not matter, yes there are cases where the psu broke in that instance. Could be an coincidence? Maybe. It does give an high inrush current but with an PSU like RM650x it should not matter.

So yes there is an higher chance it will brake, but it's around the same chance than plugging in a vacuum cleaner on the same power group.

/home/ubuntu/Skyblock/./world/session.lock: already locked (possibly by other Minecraft instance?)
This says the file is locked. Check System Monitor (or htop if its headless) to see if you already have Minecraft running.
If you cant connect to it, then end the minecraft process and restart the world.

If there is no Minecraft process running, then delete the lock file  "/home/ubuntu/Skyblock/./world/session.lock"
You should be able to start it then.

This is not true, specially not in the corporate environment. Systems (servers) that run windows get laugh at. But it's hard to get into for sure, especially if you are used to "click and drag" to change settings and that's also the same reason why it is so good to automate systems and make small changes that have a big impact.

Ubuntu is love reacted to NinJake in Ghost VPN?...
You have private IP addresses and public IP addresses.

If you open a cmd prompt window and type "ipconfig" it will show you your ipv4 address (likely 192.168.1.x or 192.168.0.x). This is your private address, only the networked computers within YOUR network care about these addresses, it's how they talk to each other.

If you go to google and type "whats my ip" in the search bar, it will show you your public address, this is how the rest of the world identifies your network. Your public IP address can change randomly and almost likely will all the time, it's normal. You can contact your ISP for a static IP address, however that is normally for businesses and cost extra. @Forleb

Ubuntu is love reacted to Jarsky in Installing Nvidia drivers on Ubuntu also installs GUI environment?
You need to use the headless drivers.
You'll probably need to do some cleanup of your existing drivers and it would have installed X11(GUI) elements so something like

    So something like below
    sudo apt-get remove nvidia-* xserver-xorg* && sudo apt-get purge nvidia-* xserver-xorg* && sudo apt-get autoremove && sudo apt-get autoclean sudo apt-get install nvidia-headless-450-server
You could also install the Nvidia drivers from the run package from their site https://www.nvidia.com/en-us/drivers/unix/
When using the run file just dont run the x11-config at the end

Ubuntu is love reacted to remakethegame in Home server storage thingy? halp?
You don't really need enterprise grade hardware to achieve your goals. Some simple CPU 2-4 cores, 16 GB of RAM, some gaming motherboard (with 4-6 SATA ports), separated disk/USB for OS and 4 x 2 TBH drives for data. Linux (CentOS, Ubuntu) as the OS and use MDRAID to combine the hard drives into resilient RAID array. NFS or Samba SMB to share the storage to your family. Good luck with that!

Why would you need a virtual machine for. nas here, Id just setup a smb share on windows and then devices on your network can access files from it. Performance wise it will be fine, it talkes almost nothing these days to fill a gigabit line with data.

Okay it does use it. Then its just you are running on powersave mode. Because you use a laptop. Right below there should be a battery icon. Change that to high performance.

Then it still could not use the GPU. Open task manager (right mouse button on taskbar under in the screen) and start up a game. Look if the GPU in the tap performance shows any use.

Mine right now is an old dell system that I salvaged and popped a few hard-drives in and raid with freenas and boom.

This route is the save money route:

Buy an old 3rd or 4th gen system.
Upgrade the system to 8 or 16gb of RAM
Buy 3 1tb or 2tb harddrives. (Depending on the storage you need.)
Buy a pci-e sata expansion card.
Connect them together and install Freenas on it.
Configure Raid Z for that redundancy.
    And enjoy.

Why not use an vpn service? like L2TP/IPSec VPN on Windows server 2019? Or if customers need to use services. Maybe use a proxy server. (for webservices, maybe something easy like apache proxy?) It's possible what you are trying to do. But that's going to be a real pain in the ass what you are trying to do. And not even talking about the security.....

Ubuntu is love got a reaction from kelvinhall05 in Has my PC finally died ? Help needed.
That's not true, if the cpu is broken... then the mb would spit beep codes. if an add-in card is broken the pc would normaly shut itself off in a few seconds. But yes it would be more things. But normally its memory, especially if the pc is a little bit older.

pretty much anything that has a hardware interrupt line, can cause this behavior.

It's probably the graphics card or the driver of the graphics card. Or your memory just crashed completely, but then it would fix itself with a restart.
