I recently tried joining a Minecraft server after a while that I had no issues with previously, and now it thinks I'm using a VPN. I did get a new router for my house, but I still have ethernet for my PC going through the modem itself. Is it possible that something automatically changed in the modem when I hooked up the router that would be causing this? Calling myself a rookie with internet troubleshooting is generous...

Is it masking my original IP?

yes it did that's the point of most VPN's. Unless you are using a company VPN (so not nordVPN, surfshark, cyberghost....) you can turn it off to use a your own public IP. You could just play without your VPN if you want. You only are less secure because you don't have an private network firewall running. Just make sure your pc firewall is working good and get your new router fast. (PS. does not really matter rn if you use a vpn or not, you are not secure anyway...... Only your IP is easyer to find)

I never had a VPN to begin with. I disabled both VPN settings in Network & Internet and that hasn't helped, so am I missing something?

I'm not very familiar with windows. But you also have to check if your IPv4 settings are set to dynamic. I think that's in adapters, property's and then dubble click on ipv4. But i could be wrong. It's also important that no other device is connected to the same network. Because you don't have a router. So you only get one IP in total.

I do have a router, but as I said above, my PC is still connected to the original modem.

That's not gonna work, you only get one IP from the modem (if it is really a modem) and that IP should (and is then) allocated to the router. I'm also very confused now what you are trying to do?

After reading through your comments more thoroughly I think I'm just as confused... I can only log into my modem from my PC yet Windows thinks my IP is different?? My PC isn't hooked up to the router & it isn't WiFi capable. Is there any chance my modem is being picky about which port I'm using for the router?

You have private IP addresses and public IP addresses.

If you open a cmd prompt window and type "ipconfig" it will show you your ipv4 address (likely 192.168.1.x or 192.168.0.x). This is your private address, only the networked computers within YOUR network care about these addresses, it's how they talk to each other.

If you go to google and type "whats my ip" in the search bar, it will show you your public address, this is how the rest of the world identifies your network. Your public IP address can change randomly and almost likely will all the time, it's normal. You can contact your ISP for a static IP address, however that is normally for businesses and cost extra. @Forleb
