Oh, yes, as you said, sleep mode is off but the screen is set to turn off in 10 minutes. I just turned it off and the problem is probably solved.

What are you power settings set to?
Because this sounds like it's turning off the screen not going to sleep.

You are sacrificing all of the reliability when you set your budget to $150.

Whatever you decide to take on, will be equally as shitty as a setup made from SBCs.

Save more to increase your budget then maybe you can consider reliability.

So you're trying to WoL over Wi-Fi? Yeah that won't work. Use wired ethernet.

Lurick reacted to LIGISTX in WoL not working
Do not open up ports for WOL. That is extremely insecure.

The way to do this is get another machine inside your network (could be a raspberry pi) to remote connect to either via something like team viewer or SSH, then use that to WOL your desktop. Opening a port to a services that is not meant to be exposed to the internet is going to be a very bad time… just asking to get hacked.

Also, yea, you can’t WOL over WiFi.

As the people in this thread say; it's gonna be hard to build a compatibility list until the spec is final finalized. At this point it's more of a set of guidelines and manufacturers are kinda figuring it out on the fly
There are some case recs in that thread as well. The O11Vision looks sick....

this sounds like if can work (ONLY IF YOUR MOTHERBOARD SUPPORTS PCIE BIFURCATION)
but even then, you won't have enough pcie lanes going to each gpu to make it worthwhile

so try to troubleshoot why putting a second card in makes the system refuse boot
do you have an m.2 ssd?
if so place it on the lower m.2 slot(bottom right of board) so it doesnt take pcie lanes from the cpu

    That's great

okay, I guess since this feature isn't really of much value to me I might as well select based on:

I have the flexibility to do either, all the machines I want to connect up have available HDMI and DP ports so no converters will be needed. So I guess all that matters is that the DP one is in stock and $15 cheaper.

    Thanks for your time

Annoyingly L1T doesn't have the right photo angles to determine if the holes for the rack mount brackets are there, but luckily their OEM Rextron does. Yes, the HDMI 2.1 version supports the rack mount kit.

The primary difference is that the HDMI version has hardware to deal with HDMI embedded audio, either feeding audio into it or extracting audio from it. Your other concerns then are just what ports most of your hardware uses (swapping with converters is possible, but with a KVM in the mix it's usually a good idea to keep the rest of the signal path as simple as possible) and the HDMI 2.1 KVM currently being out of stock.

These temperatures are well within safe limits. They are quite good especially for a gaming laptop.
You can buy a can of compressed air and blow out the dust where the fan is located without opening the laptop.
If this has never been done then this is highly recommended 🙂

I agree that for the price difference, I'd get the highest one. However I don't know how reliable those ISPs are.

For some perspective, I was one of the lucky people to be able to get 25Gbps in Switzerland, and I moved back to 1Gbps, it's plenty enough for two. (The 25Gbps was a proof-of-concept, worked, did my speed test, I'm happy 😉 )

And for yet another perspective, I work for an ISP in Switzerland : I picked a switch where I currently have 9 customers connected at 1Gbps, looked at the 10G uplink, here is the graph of the port over a period of 2 months :

    - The red line are the " 95pctile ", means what is measured 95 percent of the time, it's used for billing for some companies (we don't care),
    - The port is monitored every 5 minutes, and takes the differences with the previous result to create an average, so you don't have the highest spikes visible,
    - This port could go up to 10Gbps, and you see that even with 9 users on it, we never reach much more than 900Mbps in both ways, so I suspect the peak on that equipment was around 2Gbps at most.
    - You see traffic all day, because we have residential mostly evening traffic) and commercial (mostly 9 to 5 traffic) on that equipment.

In summary, 1Gbps is plenty enough, you can roughly download 300 TBytes in a month at 1Gbits per second. If you're not a data hoarder, you're probably safe 😉

    Hope it helps !

Yeah but I'm a forum poster, not a journalist. That's the point of this place, to talk stuff out and speculate. When you proport to be a journalist, do it right because based on what's given the rest of us speculate and build our opinions. The better and more whole the picture given, the more informed our speculation and conclusions.

Ignoring the clickbait video, a change will happen if there is a good enough reason for it to happen. For computers, this could be a combination of cost, performance and power efficiency especially for mobile devices. Many comparisons are made in narrow focused best case conditions and you need to look at the wider picture.

What I haven't seen yet is what these higher end Arm CPUs could do for non-Windows OS. Could it do well in a high end Android tablet for example? At the time I got it, my Snapdragon 8 gen 1 based tablet was the best you can get on Android, and it didn't feel as good as whatever was in my iPad mini before it.

Lurick reacted to Eigenvektor in why are there multiple timezones?
Time zones generally change east to west, not north to south. Meaning time above and below the equator is usually the same already, so long as you stay on the same longitude.

We already have a universal time standard called UTC. It is used in places where it makes sense (e.g. air travel and anything to do with computers). For everyday life, it would just make everything more complicated.

It doesn't matter where someone lives, if you tell them you get up at 5 am, they understand that's pretty early. If UTC was used they'd first have to check where you are to understand whether that's early or late or anywhere in between.

Nor would it make international meetings any easier. Just because you don't have to translate a meeting at 1 pm your time to some other time doesn't mean it might still be middle of the night for some other participant. If you convert 1 pm ET to e.g. 7 pm CET at least it's intuitive that people might not actually be working that late.
  25. Agree
Lurick reacted to dilpickle in why are there multiple timezones?
This has been proposed before and it would only make things more difficult for daily life. If you stop and think about it hopefully you can understand why.

Using your Australia example lets say you go there for vacation. Now you've got to memorize a whole new time schedule. With time zones all you need to do is adjust your clock and everything is the same.

There is already a universal time standard for applications that need it.
