Heavygun1450 got a reaction from App4that in Why 1080p needs more CPU than 4k
Very good thread, very informative and true. 1080p at high refresh rates does require more cpu horsepower than running 4k at 60hz!

Heavygun1450 got a reaction from NinerL in Cable modems with the Intel Puma 6 chipset LAG!!!
Bump. Still a very important Issue that needs to be addressed. More information on it here. This will probably never be fixed by a software update. https://www.dslreports.com/forum/r31122204-SB6190-Puma6-TCP-UDP-Network-Latency-Issue-Discussion~start=2880

To further add to what @Heavygun1450 said. Check out Frontier's direct forum at https://www.dslreports.com/?r=906. It tech support forum ran by Frontier hosted at DSLreports. I have Comcast as an ISP and they also have a direct forum here, and I found the help here, much better then calling in.

Heavygun1450 got a reaction from Izzdy in Multiple access point question
Yes, I have done this myself to increase range around the house. Just plug the Ethernet cable into the Modem/Router and the other end of the Ethernet into your AP/Router and it should work just fine!

Those XFiinity Modem/Router combos are garbage. Been with Comcast for over 10 years I know that most of their stuff is trash. You are renting that box for $10 a month BTW. Because its a modem/router combo it makes things harder. One you can try to get them to put it in to bridge modem and hook a router to it. Or if you dont mind extra configuration you can keep the setup and add a router.Your biggest issue, if your modem is in the fucking basement. WiFi tends to work best when its up high. So basically you have your router in the shittiest place you could ever have a router in a house. At I can suggest is to put the router as high up in your basement as possible.
Not heres my question. You do have 4 bars which should be sufficient. Does the WiFi drop out, or just the internet? There is a difference. It could be a signal issue on the cable line coming in to your house. Your modem has very specific specs for signal to operate correctly. Modems that go out of spec will disconnect. Because if your computer is not disconnecting from the WiFi and it just shows no internet, then its must be a modem or signal issue.

you could run an ethernet to the first floor and have another router work from there. I'd try to contact xfinity and see if they'll replace your current router before buying another one.

Heavygun1450 got a reaction from Patalayus in AMD Processors
AMD's FX series of CPU's is 5 years old which is old for a processor. Their 8 cores processors are slower than intels quad core processors. AMD's CPU's dont use a newer architecture or smaller manufacturing process. Which means, More power draw, More Heat, Less overclocking potential. Why pick AMD's proessors when you could get one of intels quad cores for the same price as AMD's. Intel's CPU's will overclock better, Have much better gaming performance, Have higher single core performance, And use less electricity and overclock better. Zen will update upon the FX series and will be a pretty decent line of new CPU's.

Ditch that cooler and get a AIO watercooler for a high end build like that, because why not.
Z170 and 6700k are enough for gaming.
Your case will fit your drives.
You need a sli bridge that can fit 2 cards on it.

Heavygun1450 got a reaction from Littlelaner in CPU to match GTX 1070
I mean you could get the 6600k if your struggling in your budget, but if you really want to balance out your PC I would get the 6700k. If your trying to hit 144hz the 6600k will limit you to around 80fps when the 6700k could give you 120hz, etc. 6700k will be more future proof and be great for things very cpu intensive like streaming and video editing.
