that'll never happen. Windows's only strength at this point is compatibility. anything microsoft wants to make that doesn't run older programs is never gonna work out.

That will depend on what you currently have available.

That’s the concept. Each AP is connected to a central router via an ethernet uplink. Wired clients can be wired into the router through a switch if you need lots of ports.

Establish exactly how the ISP terminates the connection with the exact make/model of all network devices (in sequence). A diagram might help.

While I understand you’re trying to save money, a local firm that specializes in networking rollouts would be very beneficial to help you plan the deployment. The advantage of using qualified people is that they have the knowledge of how all this stuff works and will set things up properly. And, because your setup is not very complicated, it shouldn’t cost that much.

    No.

Sorry to say: this ISP really took advantage of a misinformed customer.

If more bandwidth is needed, upgrade the speed of a single connection. If you need failover/load-balancing/coalescing, then that's a totally different scenario.

As for wireless extenders, they should only be used as your absolute last resort. Any AP system will easily out-perform them and will be more reliable in the long run.

In my home network I have 2 routers.

One is main router connected to the internet, the second router is an old router that I have turned off the router part in and I just connect it to the LAN and utilize the built in ethernet switch and the wireless radios as an WiFi access point.

Deadly - no. Inconvinient and a possible threat to security/data - yes. Chances are these are merely set up to start on boot and perform their operation. They can be disabled and possibly cleaned entirely if you know what you're doing. But overall starting on a new clean OS is recommended like @jaslionsaid. It might even be faster to install an OS and restore programs to your normal working order before an entire system can be scanned and/or manual cleanup of malware.

Great for those situations when you want to use an open source OS, but don't want open source graphics drivers, so you run Nvidia and also don't really want an open source OS, so you run Windows in a VM.

mrchow19910319 reacted to gjsman in NVIDIA to officially allow GPU passthrough to Windows VM from Linux host
    Summary
Today, NVIDIA announced that they will officially support the ability to have a Windows VM on a Linux host and passthrough a GPU to it. Although this was technically possible earlier, NVIDIA made it very difficult with Error 43 on their consumer hardware, requiring gamers to try preventing NVIDIA's drivers from knowing they were running inside a VM. With this change, running a Linux operating system as your daily driver and having a Windows VM for certain games is now easily possible.

However, NVIDIA can't do anything without a catch. Because this is not SR-IOV, you will need 2 GPUs: 1 for Linux, and 1 being passed through to Windows. Which, considering the GPU shortage, means this is a shallow victory.

    My thoughts
I'm happy, but at the same time, a bit miffed that this isn't SR-IOV with the ability to split a GPU into parts (like you can with CPU cores), so the requirement for 2 GPUs is quite unfortunate.

    mrchow19910319 reacted to DMC90 in Hades - FormD T1
As a new user to this forum I'll make my first post count by starting a build log thread for my Formd T1 build. The pandemic is making this build a lot more difficult than I initially anticipated, so I'll be taking my sweet time for this specific build.  After a long wait I've finally received my T1 on the last day of 2020. I've opted for the black colorway and truth be told, I'm already regretting my decision not getting a silver one. But hey, maybe for the V2 of this case which is now in the making I'll go for a silver version.

I just completed building a NR200P for my younger brother and have to say I'm a bit nervous building in a case thats more than twice as small. My old system, before it was running on a motherboard box, was installed in a Ncase M1 so I have experience with SFF and ITX, but the T1 is really pushing the limits.

Like I said, the pandemic is not helping with getting this build done, which means it's going to be a Frankenstein kinda build until its done. I'll list the parts which I've currently have at my disposal and what it needs te become in the near future.

PSU: Corsair SF750 or EVGA Supernova 650 GM Storage 1: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB Storage 2: Samsung 970 Evo Plus 1TB Hope you guys will enjoy the build log and I'll try to keep updating the thread as much as I can.

    Case
Haven't started building yet, but I've just opened the box of the T1 and I have to say it looks gorgeous. Build quality really looks A+, but I still need to double check all parts to make sure mine does not have any Q&A issues. Thank god there are some YT vids out there on how to build this case since nothing is included with this case.

    Parts
Currently I've got some parts laying around and I ran my old setup on my motherboard box because I sold my Ncase M1. The MSI 3060TI Ventus 2X feels solid and it's a beefier card than I originally anticipated. I was expecting a dual slot GPU with a single 8 pin power connector, but it's thicker than 2 slots and has two 8 pin power connectors. The EK AIO is pretty AF and I'm not sure if I'm even going to use the RGB on it.

It's also nice they are sporting Mediatek chipsets. The Helio G series are actually not that bad and latest Dimensity 1000+ are actually Snapdragon 855+/865 level of performance which is actually really nice. Especially at up to 500€ price points...

    My thoughts
This is the first time that a mainstream big PC vendor has prominently made Linux an option for their PCs. Not only that, the PC vendor in question (Lenovo) is directly working with the Linux distribution (Fedora) to better support it rather than doing weird things to support it in a haphazard way. The fact that Lenovo is listing it right next to the regular Windows variant, pricing it comparably (actually somewhat cheaper!) with similar specs shows willingness to sell it to all their customers and support it. This is in contrast to the Dell "Developer Edition" laptops, which are hidden away on their website, difficult to purchase, and have sometimes significantly weaker specs than the standard variant. If this is successful, this could spell the beginning of the end of the "Wintel" concept that has dominated PCs for close to three decades.

My other daily driver is a refurb T450 I got last year for $320.

My policy is "Old good tech is still good tech." That's why I'm fine with paying a premium up front if I can be reasonably certain that I'll get a long usable life out of a product.

You only really need newer or powerful hardware if you're doing intensive stuff, like 4k video editing, CAD, higher end gaming, etc, imho anyway.

On paper it's great but looking from a casual consumer perspective its implementation into devices people use has been limited. with that in mind, I wouldn't be surprised if it was fused with USB4 and the TB4 standard faded into the distance like my 4790K is starting to.

mrchow19910319 got a reaction from Sarwar in SEO vs SEM and which one to use.
I am about to do some freelance work just to test water.
And one of my potential client is a owner of a barber shop.
I can write him a website alright, but what happens after that I have no clue.
The thing I am worried about is that after I wrote him some site and host it online, whenever I search that particular site it does not come up in the search engine page. (or more like does not come up in the 1st few result)
I heard that a website needs some time before it can be seen on the search engine, because the search engine needs to index it.
If whatever site I put out does not come up into the 1st few search result, then it is hard to use it to promote your business isn’t it?
Also I will advise my client against SEM because it might cost him a lot of money, and also we are a local business, there is no point that everyone in china is gonna see his barber shop since most of people do not live in our city.
What do you guys think about SEM and does any one of your clients/former clients used it before?
I did some research on China’s SEM models. And all of them points out that as long as you keep paying the company(baidu) you will see they add in your site to the top of the search result and add a “ad” tag on it. So you will get more “clicks” but as soon as you stopped paying, your view counts decreases dramatically. It’s just a “pay to win” system.
How do I implement SEO into the site myself ? By including meaningful meta tags? Also baidu has a design/styling guide on their site (in chinese) as well as an article about SEO, if I just follow those guide line I should be fine right?
