Hiebly got a reaction from Nik Balor in Nvidia Drivers VS AMD Drivers
For mainstream triple A gaming they're both similar. But AMD has more edge cases of things going horribly wrong. The ReLive drivers bricked a lot of R7/9 200 cards for example. And a lot of times the newer drivers for cards that have just come out are really bad.

I've also run into the issue on AMD drivers where they get stuck uninstalling. Tried leaving it for 2 hours and still stuck on uninstall, and unable to cancel the uninstall from within the uninstaller, lol.

Nvidia's are far from perfect (with recent drivers reducing overall performance) but overall I've encountered fewer major issues despite spending more time with them.

Hiebly got a reaction from DrMikeNZ in Gaming/Streaming
I've tested extensively and the difference between CPU encoding and QuickSync or NVENC is night and day at streaming bitrates (below 3500). For YouTube videos where you can have like 15,000+ Kbps, then QuickSync and NVENC quality become really good.

Also worth noting is that QuickSync doesn't have as minimal of a performance impact as NVENC. I still lose a significant amount of frames when using QuickSync encoder with my i5-4690K... the performance gain over CPU encoding isn't enough to justify how terrible the image quality is compared to CPU encoding. You could make a case for NVENC for casual streaming since it's <2% performance loss.

I also really enjoy Paragon, but I'm already quite invested to Smite (pretty similar game) and don't feel like committing a ton of time to more than one MOBA.

One thing to note is that AMD's video card drivers aren't as low-overhead as Nvidia's, at least in DX11 - so an AMD card will be bottlenecked by CPU sooner than a similarly-performing Nvidia card.

Hiebly got a reaction from ARikozuM in Asrock really is the best mobo company.
TBH I don't notice much difference between the different brands... I think you should just get one that has the features you want. Pretty much any manufacturer is gonna have like a 2-4% failure rate and all of them (except EVGA?) will have off-shore customer support. Though I am impressed that they replaced your board that was caused by a GPU fire.

Hiebly got a reaction from scottyseng in 7700k vs 1800X at 4k with 1080 TI SLI.
I'd go Ryzen (but I'd get 1700X over 1800X to save some dough). Playing at 4K you're going to be nowhere near the CPU's limits since framerates aren't going to be as high as if you were playing at 1080P, so IMO it makes more sense to get a better all-round CPU that will age better. Like the 7700K can provide maybe ~20% higher FPS in a lot of games at really high framerates where the CPU becomes a bottleneck... but at 4K that just will almost never happen.

Hiebly got a reaction from PCApprenticeRace in Paladins Vs Overwatch
Overwatch is mixed for me. It feels great to play, it's immensely polished, has much better servers than Paladins (HiRez doesn't exactly have the best server host for their games)... but I also find it really frustrating. I haven't played Paladins since earlier in its closed beta stages, but from what I played then it was much slower than Overwatch. Personally I find getting oneshot by the fucking tank who has 600 health and can heal himself and pull you to him from 100 metres away makes my blood saltier than the dead sea.

Basically Overwatch is a better made game but can be really frustrating if you're not playing with a coordinated group because there is a pretty set in stone meta and many things feel like they have no counterplay until you've really mastered the game (or have a group to deal with certain strategies).

The higher the resolution, the lower the framerate will be (since the GPU will be pushed much harder per frame). The CPU does the same amount of work whether the frame is 1280x720, 1920x1080, 2560x1440, 3840x2160... so at higher resolutions, CPU does less work since there are fewer frames.

It uses more if there's more available. Without changing the settings I can go from it using 5GB to like 9GB just by changing RAM from 8GB to 16GB.

The whole 4k thing is kind of ridiculous. We should just be calling it 2160p, but nooooooo. Some marketing team decided to introduce a ridiculous moniker.

Dear god, if the top end 8 core is only $500 and bottom end one is $320 does that mean we're gonna have i5 equivalents sitting in the $100-150 price range? I'm definitely getting an 8-core if the prices are this good, hell I'll pre-order the damn thing the second it's listed on NCIX.

I am curious though. If every Ryzen CPU is overclockable, do they really need so many SKUs? I expect there will be a pretty big price dif between the B350 and X370 motherboards

really, those others (6800K, 6850K...) don't justify their prices / performance. Even for a Hobby you'll do very fine with 6700 or 7700

hrm not sure why I didn't think of that

Gave it a try, and the problem persisted even with the headphone volume turned to the lowest and phone volume set to the highest. I guess the problem is in the cords or volume controller.

Basically the way the headset is setup is the headphone and mic jack converge into one cord and then that connects to a little switch with mute & volume knob. So I guess either in the switch or somewhere along the cord where both the input and output share a sleeve there is some interference

Guess I need to look into getting a new mic & headphones. Thanks for your help

Temperatures aren't accurately monitored on AMD FX CPUs, especially at low temps. You can get pretty good estimates of how much headroom you have (temperature delta between current and max/throttle) by using AMD Overdrive.

You can try disabling AMD Cool n Quiet from the bios

It's not a free society. You are free as a human being to act how you want, but that doesn't mean there aren't consequences. There are laws, regulations, etc. to a society that operates under cooperative progression and government. If you don't like it, you can move to fucking somalia or something
