6700K vs 6800K

Eeeey Guys,

I don't really know what Processor I should get....

(I already own a 1080 Founders)

Should I go for the 6700K/7700K or the 6800K

My Rig will primerally be for Gaming (and CS:GO-ish 3D Rendering, 4K Photo and 2K Video Editing as a Hobby)

And if I should get the X99 Platform, should I go with the 6800K or 6850K (I guess the 6800K, cuz 3-Way SLI Doesn't work (for most Games))

if you can wait, 7700K, if you can't, 6700K.

 

really, those others (6800K, 6850K...) don't justify their prices / performance. Even for a Hobby you'll do very fine with 6700 or 7700

It depends how often do you have to render something. Are you doing that daily? If so, 6 cores are a must for you.

If you are doing it few times a month, just save some of your money and get Z170 setup.

 

And if you decide to go for X99, it doesn't have to be 6850k. GPUs works just fine on x8.

The thing is, I would get a M VIII Formula with it, which will crank up the price alot

6800k if your budget allows (I would only suggest this if you care for your Photo and Video editing) but I would go with 6700k for gaming myself as there is only like 2-3 fps difference between the two and your paying a premium for that x99 moba and another 100 bux for 6800k which is only better by 1-3 fps I would go with 6700k myself as you can really get motherboards that fit your pc theme.

Thats what I thought, I will do 2-Way SLI max and I heard 16x vs 8x has little to no performance difference

My Budget is around 2200 Euros, which is more than enough to get it I guess

Go with the 6800k and call it a day.

 

If you need more single or multi core performance, just overclock it.  The last think you want to do is build a new rig and wish you would have gotten more cores.

6800K takes my vote. The extra 2 cores 4 counting HT. Does yield better render times over the 6700K. For gaming they are similar but heavy CPU utilized games tend to run better on th 6800K.

Honestly, I was in the same predicament as you and I went with the 6800k with the ASRock Fatal1ty Professional Gaming i7...despite the price it's a pretty good board.

Thanks. It was my first build. I actually had the overclock higher but I didn't really want to go higher than 1.3v on the vcore at the moment. I did get it stable at 4.48GHz but I didn't want to leave the vcore at 1.34. I know that's not that high but it just wasn't what I wanted.

I gave Broadwell-E a spin myself (6800k and 6950x).  Great chips.  The 6800k would run well at 1.36v/4.6 GHz, but required just over 1.4v to be stable at 4.6 GHz.  Temps were pretty good considering voltage.

 

No real cache or memory tweaks in this run so the score wasn't the greatest.  Strong chip for sure.

Geez. I never tried pushing it that far. Maybe  whenever I do my custom loop but that probably won't be for a year or so. I do have more room for overclocking with my Kraken. My CPU Temps were stabilized at 56°C  on AIDA64 stress test.

I want to know what are you temps after 10min of AIDA64 with CPU + FPU + cache stress testing.

If i7 6800k stays under 60°C with Kraken cooler, I will be buying this chip in the future for sure.

I had it for 15mins there. I believe that I was stress testing those 3 things aswell. I was just running a fairly aggressive fan curve. Not like 90% the whole time but it definitely wasn't quiet haha. 

 

I'll be home in about an hour and I'll run it again I'll PM a screenshot.

My i7 4790k is reaching to 80°C when on 1,287V at 4,5GHz. In custom water loop with 360mm + 240mm rad.

My GPU in the same loop is chilling at 40-45°C at max load, so my loop is just fine. My TIM inside the CPU (under IHS) must be pretty bad xD

Delid that CPU and put some CLU on it, you'll run at like 60c afterwards, not even kidding lol.

I know that it would help me a lot if I delided CPU.

But I'm scared about that xD 

 

It's 380€ worth CPU and if I somehow destroy it, it's value will go to 0€ and I simply don't want that to happen.

I saw way too many delidings go wrong and it just pains me to look at other people's photos of destroyed CPUs. Not to mention warranty void if that CPU decides to die for unknown reason. 

 

May I ask how did you delid your CPU? With razor or with that method where you hit it with a hammer from the side?
