    Better models? Potentially.
Performance wise (speaking exclusively about the capabilities of the GPU itself) you're talking minor differences, AIB overclocked cards as opposed to reference design; low single digit percentages.

    Better cooling performance?
Usually, yes. We have both the reference and AIB cards/coolers with the 2080 launch (generally, they don't tend to be wildly different between card SKU's intergenerationally). This generation, the reference cooler appears to be fairly competent, however.
Watch and read some reviews (plural, never trust a single source) on different cards and their cooler performance. If you're considering water cooling it, compatible block options will dictate your choice.

With all that said; You'll likely have to end up waiting anyway, if you want to be an informed consumer. Stock is expected to be low (coming directly from Nvidia)
Much like the 3080 launch, stock will likely be gone within minutes, if not less.

User1868 reacted to Master Disaster in New PC build not recognising USB SSD on USB 3 ports...
Its more than likely a setting that's incorrect in BIOS tbh, go through all USB based settings and check anything pertaining the USB 3 is enabled, also xHCI Hand Off should be enabled for Windows.

BTW upgrading your BIOS/UEFI is not that big of a deal, just make sure you only ever do it through the UEFI itself and never allow a Windows based tool to do it for you. Most modern UEFIs now support reading NTFS hard drives so you can simply download the UEFI file, extract it to your HDD, reboot to UEFI, enter  flash mode, select the drive, select the file and it will flash. Boards are clever enough to not flash the wrong file and most boards these days have either dual BIOS support or a recovery mode/USB Flashback.

    1. your i7 still good.
    2. with 2060, 60fps target is a breeze, no need to upgrade the whole system.
    3. just buy the 2060
    4. No 4k monitor over 60fps, there are plenty of 1080p with 144hz. Get one with GSync featured.
You can get a DP to Dual Link DVI-D Active Adapter if you want to use the DVI Monitor at 144hz.
Or you can have a DP to Single Link DVI for 60hz.
And oh, this one still has DVI, take a look:

When overclocked, 8700k can catch up to Ryzen 7. It does cost a lot more, so which depends on your budget and how much you game (in which 8700k wins by a mile)

As I mentioned earlier, it depends on what you do. If you're only gaming then the 7300HQ will be enough to support a GTX 1050 but if you do more stuff with your laptop than just gaming then I'd consider spending more for the i7 for better multitasking and faster video editing.

Ah yes, I too have made an ISO of Windows with everything pre-disabled.

And as my desktop doesn't have WIFI, and VM's don't either, it all looked perfect.

Until I installed it on a laptop... Wifi card perma-disabled.
Somehow forcing it to enable, still can't see any SSID's (Acting like the wifi card doesn't exist).

Thanks for pointing out exactly what it wrong, saves me from trying to figure it out myself.

Personally I don't see the point in paying microsoft $100+ to spy on me and give me less control over my OS than I had in windows 7 which I still use

yea i buy keys quite often from them, not windows 10 though but just buy from a highly rated seller and you should be fine. you don´t need the kinguin protection thingy, i never bought it because i never had problems with high rated sellers and only buy games that are like 5 bucks anyways.

If you need 2TB of storage, you'll need to go with a mechanical hard drive with that budget. You aren't going to find an SSD with anywhere remotely close to that amount of storage within your budget. Where are you located?

Why not, 90% of PCs use that (maybe more or less, IDK as SSDs are quite popular now). But it depends if it uses that wide IDE ribbon cable or SATA. If your motherboard doesn't support IDE you may have a problem.

User1868 reacted to HKZeroFive in Is skylake worth it ?
    I'm assuming you're talking about the i7 4790

Gaming performance wise, the i5 6600K will top the i7 4790 but that isn't to say that it isn't close. In terms of multithreaded applications, the i7 will beat out the i5. Haswell is still a very viable platform and not far behind Skylake.

TL;DR - Stick with Haswell, the performance difference in comparison to Skylake is minimal at best.
