vyogan reacted to SSL in Best headphones for £400
It's bullshit. A combination of placebo, people becoming accustomed to the sound, and probably earpad break-in.
Also, I should mention that I don't recommend jumping on an expensive headphone if you havn't owned or at least heard a good mid-fi can first. This is esspecially true with the HD700, which has a very, lets say, "distinct" sound signature. Not everyone likes it, many people find the treble fatiguing.

vyogan reacted to TheMechEngineer in Dumbest Tech Questions/Quotes You've Ever Heard
I do all my gaming on an older ASUS monitor with 1440 x 900 resolution. Seriously, not even 1080p.
It might seem dumb when my other (more powerful) computer has a far bigger screen.
But I'm an engineer who uses just enough energy and resources to get the job done to a satisfactory standard, so you won't ever see me playing Minecraft on an overclocked Core i7 5960X with 64GB DDR4 RAM and two Titan X's in SLI.
It's a stark contrast to many retarded gamers out there who just want all the power known to mankind and build the most overkill gaming rigs ever known to mankind.

vyogan reacted to boboman342 in Will upgrading from HDD to SSD on a laptop improve battery life?
Trying to find ssd, let alone notebook drives power consumption is a thing of difficulty. You mostly have to go off what is advertised, if it is at all!
Some sites like;
http://techreport.com/review/25610/ocz-vector-150-solid-state-drive-reviewed/2
http://techreport.com/review/24561/seagate-laptop-thin-sshd-500gb-hybrid-drive-reviewed/11
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/ssd-vs-hdd-power-usage.645232/
especially notebookcheck do have some info.
An 840evo uses around 1w under load, my sp600 in my laptop uses 0.8w under load. most 5400rpm laptop hdd's use around 4w+.

vyogan reacted to Captain_WD in Will upgrading from HDD to SSD on a laptop improve battery life?
Hey there vyogan, SSDs generally consume less energy compared to 2.5" HDDs and should be more power-efficient (mainly because they don't have any moving physical parts). But the power consumption of a regular 2.5" drive (be that SSD or a HDD) shouldn't influence the laptop's battery life greatly (you may seem some small improvement but nothing too drastic). SSDs are great due to their almost instant access times, greater transfer speeds and the fact that they are not affected by vibrations (which is important when it comes to portable PCs). vyogan reacted to Kc7vwc in Why Laptops for WAN Show?
Like most people have said, the "glitch" factor is something that seems to be pretty unique to WANshow. The only other show I know that comes close is Tech Talk with Jay & Barnacules, but that is mostly outside influence.
I think it's hilarious & a great bit of showmanship that one of the biggest tech channels online, has the most glitches on it's live stream. If someone is tuning in for the first time, it gives the impression that these are normal people too and they have their share of troubles and even the best of us are still learning.
It's good for morale for anyone in the tech world.
Could they fix it? Absolutely. But then it wouldn't be WANshow anymore. After all this time, a certain goof factor is expected. Call it a brand trademark almost.

Wearables and the cloud. Also my SSD did't make my pc faster as much as I hoped.

vyogan reacted to Get I.T. Connected in What is a tech trend going on right now that you just don't understand?
For me, I just don't at all understand the whole wearable trend. I don't understand why anyone would ever need to have a device on their wrist that does less than their phone. I almost always have my phone in my pocket so unless it can do something new and exciting then I don't understand it's value. I think having something that looks decent and acts as a heart rate monitor would be alright, but we just simply don't have the battery density to be able to power something like that for any reasonable amount of time with the added watch functions and screen added in.
The trend that I do subscribe to, though, is the whole cloud movement and VDI. I believe that everyone should be moving to hosted solutions with thin clients. It pains me to say this because I very much enjoy system building, but I think it is ultimately the way the market will head. We really aren't that far away from ubiquitous access to the internet with elon musk's satellite system and google bloons and the already existing LTE network we have that can transfer more data than most peoples home networks anyway.

vyogan reacted to gilm0re3 in The New Macbook Reviews are In - and Positive?
The only thing that I think really kills the Macbook for people is the single port and the pricetag. 1300 bucks for what could be more or less called a netbook is not exactly what I would call a good deal.

vyogan reacted to BoredErica in $120 Headphone amp?
Was gonna' say, try out a blind test, but with amps it's kind of a PITA. This is why I'd just grab the Objective, so I don't every have to deal with this stuff anymore. Or just get the amp. My guess is the dac's fine.

vyogan got a reaction from elecxonica in Pic's of your desk as it is with out cleaning.
The cable mess is basically hidden behind (looks good at this angle). And there's always plenty of dust, more so at my desk than any other area in the house. Must be the fans in my PC stirring up all the dust.

vyogan reacted to bydus in Gaming depression, bought a good gaming rig but no intention to play...
I dunno, I used to enjoy games a while ago, now I just don't I would launch a game play for an hour or two and leave it. I had PS4 and therefore not many games to play now that I have PC and steam I have so many titles to play and in the end I don't play any of them, I would launch BF4 play a game or two and then nothing. I have so many games installed but no intention of playing, I feel like i'm wasting time, I work during a week and then I always feel like I'm loosing time, even if I do productive things along the day. I find myself playing some mobile games like Monument valley or watching movies on ipad more often then playing. I want to get the sensation of accomplishment in games and I can't seem to find any these days in most things I do...

vyogan got a reaction from callmecars in best under $100 IEM
The VSonic GR07 Classic Edition is a longtime favorite among IEM audiophiles for a balanced sound signature.
For a fun sound, I highly recommend the TTPOD T1 or T1-E (for extra bass). Like the above poster, the VSonic VSD3 or VSD3S are also very good.

vyogan got a reaction from Aniallation in iPod alternative
The Sansa Clip is a great choice. Another good option is the Fiio X1: http://www.amazon.co.uk/FiiO-X1-Hi-Res-MP3-Player-Silver/dp/B00MWWE6WW
Fiio is famous for making good quality budget audiophile products like amplifiers and music players.

vyogan reacted to Sidiox in Call of Duty Advanced Warfare at 46Gb download size for Xbox One
That is quite an ignorant remark. I am on 550kbytes/s down, the simple reason is that higher speeds are simply not available in my area. And in many other areas of other countries higher speeds are not available or simply too expensive.

Not sure if Linus realizes how hes inspired people. One thing is having 1,000,000 subscribers, and another is inspiring just a few very passionate people.

And yet the next iPhone will be thinner again but seriously this is why designs like the HTC One M8 are great, and I don't think they need to be slimmer than that at all.

vyogan reacted to mr moose in Did android authority fake a iPhone 6 drop test ?
No, the main argument is AA mislead their viewers, whether or not the screen broke is just a discussion.
