Virtual01 got a reaction from Taylor Dettling in Do you think hardware manufacturers are pushing the standard price llimit up to another level as performance in technology progress?
Adjusting for inflation, that figure becomes $430 USD. Remember that GPUs in those days were dinky little shits that consisted of a small PCB, a chip, and a single cheapo fan attached to said chip. Now throw in all the extra manufacturing costs that modern GPUs have, plus marketing and R&D, while also considering the much larger market and the gap begins to narrow.

Either way you need to wait. Right now is pretty much the absolute worst time to but a 900 series card. Either save more money and get a 1070 for a huge performance bump, or wait for the RX480 to get a marginally better card for way cheaper.

Honestly dude, as a retail worker in an electronics store, he's 100% on the money. People ask me every day what something costs when every price tag is right next to or right below every item. People ask me what brand a computer is when it's in very obvious contrasting font right on the front. People walk into the store and ask me where the TVs are despite the fact that the entire back wall is plastered with huge, bright TVs at all times. I'm betting that a majority of normal consumers would be fooled by that graph.

Virtual01 got a reaction from DocSwag in Elon Musk: "We Are Most Likely Living In Someone Else's Video Game"
For anyone interested in the topic, go watch a movie called The 13th Floor. Pretty cool sci-fi flick that deals with this exact idea.

This is one of the most interesting ideas ever IMO. Assume for a second that what Elon Musk said is true, that we are living in a highly advanced simulation. This introduces a lot of questions. Who are the higher beings? Probability dictates that they too are in a simulation. Do they know? Is this simulation a perfect recreation of their universe, or did they introduce limitations for the sake of simplicity? I think it's fair to say that any such simulation can only be as good as the world it exists in, IE we can't create a simulation and add extra shit physics-wise. If we did it wouldn't be a true simulation.

Was the simulation rigged such that intelligent life would be 100% likely to develop? If not, how many tries did it take? Do we exist in the "first run?" Are we even the target of the simulation? What if it's being run by aliens who don't give a shit about Earth or it's people. What happens when we reach the level where making our own, equally good simulation is possible? Does this imply that we are 100% sure that we exist in such a simulation? Does this imply that we have the technology to "escape"? Will the higher beings reveal themselves when we get to this point? Will we be able to contact them? What if they deem their simulation a failure? Do we all cease to exist? Do we start over from a restore point?

I love this stuff, you can think about it all day.

Virtual01 got a reaction from CandleJakk in Really scared to install CPU :s
There is a little arrow in the corner of the cpu that will line up with one on the mobo so you don't install it in the wrong direction. Always install the CPU first, then the cooler.

Shark attacks are so rare to begin with, why fund something like this when stuff like mosquito laser defense systems work and can benefit so many people worldwide.

    You start with the CPU.
Then you get a motherboard that's compatible with it.
Then you get a case compatible with the motherboard, if you don't find one, change the motherboard and retry...
    Continue on from there.

Virtual01 got a reaction from DevilishBooster in Why is Nvidia cards 970 to 980ti still really expensive?
Why do people always assume that the old cards will magically become super cheap each time new ones come out? Why would Nvidia significantly lower the price? So everyone can go out and buy an old card instead of buying their new one?

Virtual01 got a reaction from Gabby2805 in What speed of RAM should I get?
That's not always true. There are some games where having higher frequency RAM will give a noticeable or even significant performance increase. Fallout 4 got a lot of coverage when it released because of this.

Virtual01 got a reaction from keavlar in For gaming , how bi is the difference 3 ms- 8 ms?
It really doesn't matter. Like @Shimejii said, you may notice some ghosting but in all likelihood it will be extremely minor. Response time is not that same as input lag, though the two are generally correlated in some way, outside of the lowest of the low end of monitors. Either way, 8ms isn't going to affect anything unless you're playing at very high refresh rates.

    Virtual01 got a reaction from alphamonkey in r7 370 4gb vs gtx750ti 2gb
What games do you want to play? The 750ti gets a bad rap but it's surprisingly capable, especially for last-gen games. Yes you will need to lower the settings in most games but it is by no means a potato. If you're really worried about it, maybe delay your build a bit so you can afford the 370.

Virtual01 got a reaction from JUBSTAR in 1440P or 1080P for GTX 970
The difference in picture quality is low, but the difference in pixels is high. 1440p has ~80% more pixels than 1080p. That doesn't translate 1:1 to performance, but it gives you an idea of how difficult is it to drive. To get a good experience at 1440 I'd say get at least a 390X or a 980. If you want to crush it get a 980ti and call it a day, or wait for the next gen cards. There will likely be a better solution at a lower price point.
