Tech helping to prevent shark attacks on Australian Beaches

Australian company 'Shark Migration Systems' have created a devise that acts as a buoy but also has a piece of cable that has some equipment that can detect sharks.

Quote

Not only can it detect them, it uses state of the art sonar to interrogate the object’s swimming pattern to determine the probability of a shark occurrence – if it’s a shark – lifeguards on shore are notified

The most Amazing thing about this is that it has already

Quote

completed a full scale trial of the device off Sydney’s Bondi Beach. The trial took place between mid-February and mid-April.

this means that

Quote

Basically, if it works, they can start to sell it

This is especially helpful on crowded beaches where life guards cannot watch everyone at once.

Another waste of money to stop the very minuscule amount of attacks each year. Pointless fearmongering.

Amusingly accurate.
Idiot humans... the western Aust gov probably need something that prevents them from killing sharks.

When pretty much everything around you can kill you in Australia, making a detection system for just one threat everyone already knows about and that can be easily avoided is a bit, well, pointless.

Then again I ate a french fry off the car floor at lunch and justified it with "I'm helping the planet by lowering the amount of wasted food/trash."

Maybe it will safe a life or two. Can't knock it for that.

"Normandy" i7 4790K - GTX 970 - Phantom 410 (Gun metal) - Z97 Extreme4 (asrock) - 128GB Crucial SSD - 1TB WD HDD - H60 Refurb. - 7 case fans | G710+ Keyboard, G230 Headset, Acer GN246HL Monitor.

Quick thoughts on system: I7 is extremely quick and I'm glad I spent the extra for hyper-threading. I regret my decision to get the GTX 970, it has horrible coil whine. There isn't any excuse for this terrible whine I and others are having. I HIGHLY recommend a 144hz monitor. Future Improvements/upgrades: Rubber fan mounts, basic speakers, more ram (for a total of 16gb), replace GPU.

144hz is love. 144hz is life. I like to submit unfinished posts then do about 20 edits. I like the Night Theme too.

Shark attacks are so rare to begin with, why fund something like this when stuff like mosquito laser defense systems work and can benefit so many people worldwide.

This is good for sharks and humans alike. If an attack happens then the shark that did it get hunted. No attack, no hunting.

It's up to sharks to create it.
