I bought a picture frame from Americanframe.com when I built mine, made it look a lot more like a monitor.

It was a small low resolution monitor so I stuck with a cheap VGA only LVDS controller. Side note, its a 12.1" screen and I'm powering it with a 12V 1 amp supply and its been running fine for about a year, they don't pull much juice.

Yup , it is very doable .
you can turn your old Laptop screen into a very usable TV

total cost is 32£
30£ the Board
0£ the Screen
1£ the Glue and scrows
1£ the Stand (it is a tablet stand )

There arent fan mounting points where he as them I think, and it might be hot glue, so if he wants to remove them its easy.

That's a completely different architecture. ARM architecture d CPU's traditionally use less power and in turn output less heat but at the cost of performance where as x86 was the opposite. Also those numbers are also are an estimation in a perfect world scenario. I personally don't think we're far off though.
