What Is Bottleneck ?

I really don't know what this means. I keep seeing it in these forums and im new to computer slang . Anybody got a answer for me because im kinda lost lol.

Bottleneck is a shitty term meaning that one component is vastly slower than another. 

 

I.e. your cpu will bottleneck your gpu if your gpu is capable if putting out frames much faster than the cpu can supply the gpu with information.

Theres nothing wrong with this term bottlneck; and it is actually an apt description. The issue is that its widely overused.

And that's why I think it'd be nice to have couple other options.

When I use the term 'bottleneck' I'm saying one component is slowing down the overall system.

Others seem to always think that bottleneck means a component is slowing down another component.

My reasoning is that if a bottle is pressurized (a PC isn't passively letting frames pour out it) then the liquid is going to come out as a steady stream. A smaller neck would just limit the width of that steady stream.
