    I would crank the settings up, and your performance would probably increase! Your i7 should still be fine, the problem you might be having is that by turning the settings down to medium the game is trying to leverage more of the cpu than the gpu!

    Either cpu would work great for your use case, as far as the benchmarks go, I would ask what gpu they were using because I know a professional workstation gpu would help performance in alot of those workloads as opposed to a gaming gpu!

    Then either cpu is going to work great and I doubt in real world use there is even a noticeable difference! So, I would go with whatever platform is cheaper!

    That is actually pretty normal, most gpu's wont even have the fans spin up until 50c or higher for silent operation!

    I guess what I was trying to say is that, yeah for $250 it'll kinda work, but I think you will be highly disappointed and wishing you had spent a little more money and picked something far better!

    The wraith stock cooler that is packaged with the cpu should be fine as long as your not overclocking! I ran the stock cooler for the ryzen 1700 for a couple of months with no issue while waiting for cooler manufacturers to make am4 mounting hardware.

    Can we officially say that star citizen turned into a scam and this game is about as dead as that possum we all pass on the way to work? At this point if the game does launch I'm not even sure it would make any money considering the fact that almost everyone who wanted the game already bought in and now gets to play semi-working but mostly broken gameplay features that were never suppose to be in the game in the first place. Add to the fact that this game has had multiple release dates spanning several years, and yes I mean several, considering this game was originally suppose to launch back in 2012, and at this point has changed their Terms of Service so many times and forced paying customers to agree to them, otherwise they can't even access the game they paid for 4 years ago. Maybe I am just ranting here, but I will give Star Citizen one thing, it is maybe one of the most successful and failed games in video game history.

    They started development back in 2011, when they showed off a demo of the game they were suppose to create. I'm not by any means trying to troll, I am more or less just wondering if anyone else in the community feels the same way about a game they may or may not have pledged money for years ago. I call it a scam because by definition Chris Roberts has essentially scammed everyone who pledge financial support for this game. He offered a future product for a given price, and then changed that product and the agreement to use that product after he already collected the money and refused to give any type of refund when you didn't agree to the new terms of service.

    I have owned the G710+ for a couple of years and have not even considered buying a different keyboard since. The white backlighting is nice in the dark without be annoying and the typing experience is very satisfying. I have yet to have a single problem with the G710+ and I would consider myself a bit of a power user (school, gaming, and coding). The leds haven't dimmed or gone out and the mx browns are every bit as responsive as the day I bought it. There is a reason Linus uses the G710+ as his daily driver.

    I would ask if you have monitor that leverage that kind of performance or are you planning on getting one? If that is the case then maybe waiting could be a good idea, but if it's not I would consider getting the best card you can get now.

    alright_MEATBAGS got a reaction from Goldensapling in JavaScript String Halp
    You don't have to declare an array in javascript you can simply type:

    var kits = {"THE TROLL", "", "> Airdrop"};

    That would leave you with an array of kits(0), kits(1), kits(2).
    Plus a for loop would work better to display the array:

    var count = 0;
    for (count = 0; count < 3; count++)
    {
         document.write('<span style="font-family: arial; font-size: 32px">' + kits[count] + '</span>');
    }

    this should work but let me know if it doesn't

    alright_MEATBAGS reacted to Big-G in Dedicated PhysX card made 980 Ti run at x8 3.0
    It's because you are running two GPU's, they are splitting the dedicated 16 lanes between them... even though they aren't in SLI, they are both accessing the CPU, thus the CPU PCI Controller will split the access. This is not a problem as the GPU doesn't utilize the full 16 lanes, it's more like 4-6 lanes... so in 8x mode it's still got enough access to the CPU to perform at it's best.

    One other point is the FPS per dollar can be misleading. A lot of the benchmarks out there don't show what the lowest FPS count was. The GTX 980 is extremely stable at maintaining FPS and not bouncing all over the map. Personally I would rather see 70 FPS with only 10fps drops than 70 FPS with 20+ FPS drops. Just one thing to take note of when buying a graphics card, not all benchmarks tell the real story.

    alright_MEATBAGS got a reaction from Moonzy in I'm planning a Laptop upgrade but will it be worth it?
    You can save some money by doing the upgrades yourself. Upgrading a hard drive or ram on a laptop is fairly easy. However a hard drive dock might be required if the laptop doesn't support two drives or have an optical drive which you can remove to place a hard drive in just to do a cloning. To see a good performance increase you might consider an SSD as the main hard drive and buy an external hard drive later for mass storage. Upgrading the ram should help overall system performance. Since it seems like your planning to squeeze another year or two out your laptop and are not looking to buy a new one, I would get an SSD and 8gb of ram and call it a day for upgrades.

    alright_MEATBAGS got a reaction from The_KIASER in Pre built Vs Building?
    A pre-built system can seem to offer more performance per dollar, but you have to pay attention to what your actually buying. Often times the pre-builts use sub-par cases (with extremely poor ventilation), motherboards, and power supplies limiting any potential upgrades in the future. However building a system on $400 is tough, but if shop the deals and buy smart you could build a pretty solid rig for $400. A $400 laptop will probably offer more features and may seem like a better option, but what your buying at $400 is something that is probably 2 or 3 generations old already and offer almost no upgradability.

    alright_MEATBAGS got a reaction from Tairetsu in Opinion on refurbished products in general.
    Typically refurbished products such as graphics cards, power supplies, or even cases are usually quite good and very close to new in box parts. I would avoid refurbished hard drives and motherboards as those seem to be finicky ( such as once it has broken it doesn't want to be fixed kinda thing). I have used both a refurbished power supply and graphics card in builds and those parts are still running today with no problems. In fact the only issue I've ever had has been with refurbished mechanical drives (every one I've ever purchased has been faulty). Just offering some insight from experience.

    yup, FX-8350 @5GHz (essentially 9590) and OC'd 980Ti just fine on 550W. Really, there isn't a single gpu + single CPU combo on this planet that needs more than 550W (even these power hungry parts use around 480W under full load)

    While both of them are quite good, and I'm sure will get the job done, if I might throw out a suggestion. Take a look at the Beyer Dynamics Custom One Pros (There are a discontinued model and a new model) either model of them are great. I bough a pair of Custom One Pros 3 years ago and have absolutely not looked back. They are comfortable and the sound quality is spot on. However, if you have narrowed down your choices to the two listed above I would go with the m50x. They are great studio quality headphones that I am sure you will get years of use out of, not to mention Audio-Technica tends to back up there products.

    alright_MEATBAGS got a reaction from Bensemus in Are Mac computers really that bad?
    I am a pc user and I own a MacBook pro. Both have there uses and I use both of them quite often. I also go to school full-time for computer science so it is a actual benefit to be familiar with both operating systems. MacBook Pro or the Mac Pro are exceptional for content creation, and if you a desktop pc you can stream the game from your pc to the MacBook and game that way, other than that it's not horrible, but it's anything to write about as far as gaming goes. Consider that a lot of content creators own macs just for the ability to use Final Cut Pro and other content creation software. Personally I like both and I actually prefer OS X on a laptop than I do windows, but everyone will an opinion.
