With that budget, pick a laptop with an i7-xxxxHQ processor, not a i7-xxxxU processor. The U processors are more energy efficient but also slower than the HQ processors.

Hey Ramonman,   As the guys pointed out, you should put the more demanding and more often used applications and the OS on the SSD for better performance. Also if you are working with larger files that need to be loaded in a program, you should put that on the SSD too.   Do have in mind that it is recommended that you have 12%-15% free space on the SSD for optimal performance (caching requirements) and that the OS would take up about 35GB which leaves you with about 75GB of usable space.   Games rely on storage only for their loading times and FPS and graphics stay unaffected so if you do play some games, you can leave them on the HDD if longer load times don't bother you.    Captain_WD.

By default programs on Windows are installed on the C: drive (the drive in which Windows itself is installed on). If you want the programs to be fast, then just install them normally

Regarding your files: It depends, you will probably get more performance by storing them on the SSD, but you might run out of space.

I always like to have valley benchmark for testing with overlooks. It's nice and repetitive (being a sythetic) and so it's handy to use as a comparison tool

I like having Ms security essentials too.
    Tree size is handy too.

Here are my must-haves although not all related to gaming:

CCLeaner - Great program to clean your PC from useless files.
CPU-Z / GPU-Z - Nice way to see information about your system.
HWMonitor - Good to monitor the temperatures of the key components in your system.
Java - Some games need it and definitelly will be needed somewhere on the web.
Kawaii Codec Pack OR Community Combined Codec Pack - Both great codec packs and come with MPC-HC which is my personal favourite video player. Get the KCP if you watch anime and if not then CCCP is the way.
MSI Afterburner - I personally use it to have a custom fan curve on my GPU but it can be used for overclocking.
Notepad++ - You never know when you will be editing some .INI files for Skyrim Handy to have and much better to use than ordinary Notepad.
Paint.NET + Plugins pack - My personal favourite combo for image editing.
Puush - Easiest way to take a screenshot or capture a part of your screen while being able to share it within seconds.
Skype and Razer Comms - I use both for communication and although I really like and prefer Comms I have to use Skype for some friends and family even though I think it's horrible.
Steam - If I have to explain this then you shouldn't have a gaming PC.
Origin - I only use it for Battlefield games...
WinRAR - Got to unRAR those RARs somehow

You can only use the speed of 3.0 if you actually have that many devices. Besides, it's 2 + the USB case, so you are looking at 4 usb 3.0 ports. Still, if you think you'll need/use all those ports, it's a small price difference. They are already the cheapest mobos anyway.

For the RAM, your current choice is fine. However, if you think you'll ever want 16gbs, then THIS kit is amazingly good for the price. 16gb, 2400mhz. It'll help a bit on the video editing, for those moments where you add a crapton of effects.

Last, but not least, for 373,99, I think the Asus Strix is a much better option than the 389,99 MSI. It's just not worth it. Both are Gtx 970s, and both are quiet (and great) cards.

Ramonman reacted to GuruMeditationError in is the gtx 970 stil the best 1080p gaming card?
Based on price to performance alone I'd say yes, GTX 970 is still the best of those mentioned but still more expensive than the 960, but you can get more than the 2 gig RAM with the 970.

As far as I know the 960's are limited to 2GB RAM (to hit the price point) but I'd love to know if I'm wrong about that.

Also, you can get more RAM buying a GTX 770 and the 960 performance could very well end up being about the same as a 770 (but this kind of remains to be seen (wait for the benchmarks etc.)), so picking up a second hand 770 might be a better option if you're working within a budget. If money's not that tight I'd personally definitely go for the 970.

If the 960 turns out to have considerably better benchmarks than the GTX 770 and they release a 3Gig VRAM version I'd be tempted to go for that especially if it was over-clocked out of the box, but at that point you're probably going to be looking at paying close to what you'd pay for a 970 anyway.

That's the best I've been able to make of all of it, I could be wrong (I'm sure others should know more). My advice-- wait for the benchmarks, or if you need to buy now and money's not an issue, go for the 970.

Shadow of Mordor needed more than 3GB for the high-def textures pack. GTA V doesn't need that much VRAM (for me that was always going to be the tipping point re. how much RAM to go forward with (I'm not a big GTA fan but that was always going to be the benchmark for me).

A GTX 970 will last longer, wheather it'll last $100 longer, is another matter (that's money you could save for another mid-tier graphics card further on).
