Anthrax 7.0 - Mostly Whoosh With A Bit Of Sploosh

Update: #029

============

Both of the ram cooler have been finished. I know I could have probably done a bit more to finish them off but thats not really my style. So what do you guy think, will it work with my build?

So you saying that those colors dont look the least bit pleasing with the black? And the fist picture has no appeal what so ever?

Never liked Noctua's color scheme :P

Even put together how you have done it.

But I think you are now able to get black Noctua fans right?

Well in the end it's just a matter of taste. I imagine people

who can't stand black/red must have been really annoyed over the

past few years by that colour combo's popularity. One cannot

always please everyone. ;)

Personally, while I'm glad that there are finally different colours

now, at least for some of their fans, I must admit I actually

quite like the combination of black + Noctua's conventional colours.

Ive been personally quite sick of red and black for a couple years at least its become the blue leads of 2008-2009. I dont know if the colors themselves are really popular or just that there are a lot of things in it so that its easy to have a matching build without any real work.

Yea I actually quite like the grey ones. I will be replacing all the fans in my server/HTPC with them since its sorta match the 750D and the sabertooth X79. Also they are like $10 cheaper per fan and I already have a good amount of extra accessories from the rest of my noctua's to cover them. Since it not my main desktop I dont mind the slightly worse quality and lower speeds. I do like that ill be able to fit the same fan thoughout the entire case because they have the same fan as 140mm PWM standard and 140mm PWM with 120mm mounts. This will allow me to control all ~9 fans off of one header keeping them inaudible. After that the only issue ill have to deal with is that jet engine of a 750 Ti FTW w/ ACX thats in there.

I would also like to try the industrial NF-F12's in ChibiPC as the 3000rpm scythe gentle typhoon high speeds even all the way down are still quite loud. I was looking at the 2000rpm PWM eloops as something different before noctua officially announced their new fans. I could also use the industrial NF-A14's, which would actually be preferred since thats a 1400mm mount in the front but I would need to find a decent 140mm AIO which last I checked doesnt exist.

I fell in love with the Noctua + black scheme, even more so with the thin black wire fan grill over top, when I originally got my 3820 and sabtertooth x79. I had picked up a pair of NF-F12's for it. I believe this was in my P280/Eleven Hundred hybrid case so the interior was all black, which was a first for me when using noctua's.

Last thing just from learing over the years. Besides inverting in good if not great fans invest in fan grills and especially fan filters, youll thank me later. ;)

Update: #030

============

So apparently since your not supposed to get a bad motherboard from a Advanced RMA ASUS doesnt actually have anything in place as to what you do when you do get one. Fed up with waiting I upgraded to a Ivy-E optimized board the ASUS X79-Deluxe, also known as X79 Deluxe Dash Edition. So here's a bit of a teaser.

I've had a Deluxe board for my Sandy Bridge CPU, the board served me well. Also for overclocking.

It had everything I needed and more and there is now was I was talking myself into spending $150+ more on the Rampage IV Black. This gold looks no where near as bad as everyone on the internet is going on and on about.

Update: #031

============

After doing a bit of calculating of load, with and without potential OC, and then figuring in all my other hardware the Antec HCP 850 watt I planned to carryover from the previous build ended up being just enough, and I mean just. You may be wondering how I ended up with the below PSU then. Well a couple days after discovering that newegg decided to have a huge sale on Antec PSU's where some had both a promo code and a rebate. This PSU just happened to hop in my cart and show up at my house a few days later. Man, arnt these PSUs rambunctious! I should note that though it did not fill out its own rebate which it should know is proper courtesy.

Update: #032

============

Well my replacement sound card finally showed up from its RMA. I was really surprised to get a NIB (new in box) one as usually you get refurbished stuff. This made me happy but I dont know if im going to put it in the final build. The layout of the slots on the X79-Deluxe really only allows for 2 single slots cards when two double slot graphics cards are installed. This puts me in a place because I now have to choose between my revo drive and my sound card. I think in the end I am going to go with the revo drive because while the card was off for RMA I got quite used to just using my Essence One for output. It really save me a bunch of headache changing between three different outputs. The only thing is I realy hope the Deluxe has a better mic in than the current board im using as that one of the main reasons I get a sound card.

I quite like the board you've picked TBH. As for the gold... if they'd

asked me what I think of gold I'd probably have said no as I think gold

often ends up looking tacky and too blingbling (think ganstas with their

gold teeth and chains, or whichever other demographic fits the gold bill),

but I don't think the tone of gold they've chosen is as bad as everyone

keeps screaming. However, I'm not 100% sure if they have subdued it somewhat

in the more recent products, it's kind of difficult to tell in pictures,

but it looks almost more like champagne than gold in some pics.

Either way, I do appreciate that they're trying to diversify the colour

palette, and I accept that I'm not necessarily going to like every combo

that comes onto the market (as with the Noctua colour scheme: can't please

everybody all the time).

What really bumms me out is that MSI no longer seem to use their beautiful

blue on their higher-end boards (such as the Z77-GD65A I have, absolutely

beautiful shade of blue on that one IMHO), but instead now either use

black/yellow (if it's in their O/C line) or black/red for the gaming line,

but the "regular" high-end boards don't really seem to be a priority/existing

anymore. I know there's blue on other boards, but the shade MSI have on

theirs is by far my favourite.

the one this I wish is that is possibly had a bit better layout so you could use the x1 slots. I know that inorder to do that you have to disable wifi/bt or I think the marvell raid card. I still would have like to see them accessible as I would sacrifice the wifi/bt and would do that same for the marvell card if I wasnt planning on using its SSD Cache feature for my games drive.

The gold on this board is very close to the color of actual gold. I was linking at first that it would be far closer to the fake shiny paint gold that you see all the time mas "gold". They have subdued it on the newer boards quite a bit and it indeed looks to be more of a champagne, which truthfully would probably look even better with this build. Most of the board is black and with all the stuff ill have in here I really dont know how much of the gold youll actually see to be truthful.

Yes, many of the Asus board used to be blue, and some of the WS

boards still are. The thing is, the shade of blue on the MSI

boards is a lot prettier in person (I have a blue Asus and a blue

MSI board, the Asus blue is brighter, almost cyan, whereas the

MSI blue is a nice deep blue).

Some of the MSi boards still are blue, but not the higher end

ones. The Z77 line was the last one of those, since the Z87 they

have put the higher boards into the OC and the gaming line.

So if you havnt notice im having to add another "0" in front of the updates. The preventative procedure so just in case I do hit three digits I dont have to go back and modify nearly 100 posts. This should give you an idea of whats possibly in store for the future.

As im going along ive noticed some of the links are wrong as well so im fixing them as I go. If anyone else notices something that is off or wrong let me know so I can correct it.

Yeah, it's quite astonishing; it hasn't really been that long since

we've had a good selection of nicely coloured motherboards. If you go

back and have a look at the earlier X58 boards, they were still pretty

much all over the place, only with the second gen of x58 boards and

the Sandy Bridge boards did that really change.
