There is a lot of crossover between Canada and the US.

As an example: Maple Syrup. As much as both the Canadian Government and US Government try, they just cannot teach the Sugar Maple to respect national boundries. Those damnable anarchist trees cross the border whenever they chose and in whatever direction they choose. The bastidges never check in with Customs. As a result, you will find the citizens of both countries draining the Sugar Maples of their blood and boiling it down.

Both the US and Canada have a country within a country (well, we actually have two). In Canada it is called Quebec, in the US they are California and Texas. :P

Both nations speak English (although, I am fairly certain the British would disagree).

Despite our similarities, hostilities have broken out between the US and Canada. In fact the US has gone to war with Canada (and Canada with the US, for that matter) more than any other nation. Probably the most notorious conflict was the infamous Pig War of 1859 where rations were so scarce that the US forces were reduced to eating the Canadian dead. Considering our past history it is rather surprising our two countries share the longest undefended border in the world (militarily that is, civilian law enforcement defense is quite robust).

Sgt. Murphy says, "Never forget that your weapons and equipment were made by the lowest bidder."
