[Mini News] To drive GTA5 at 4K 30FPS, it only takes a 7870/760

Snickerzz
"To run the game on a 4K display at 30fps," says Hoare, "you’ll need at minimum an AMD HD 7870 or Nvidia GTX 760 with 2GB of VRAM." As for the 4K at 60 frames-per-second, that'll require a "high-end SLI or Crossfire setup."

This is rather exciting. Although we don't know what graphical settings were used for this 4k/30fps setup (most likely on lowest settings). It still shows that GTA:V is optimized for most systems. This could also mean that affordable 4k gaming isn't more than a couple years off..

*looks at member title* Why do you care? JKJK

I'm guessing the recommended specs will get you medium/high on 1080p/60fps. But we will just need to wait and see in 3 more days!

The recommended specs include a GTX 660 and an i5 3470.

Usually these are 1080p60fps on High specs.

Let's see at 4k with a single 970

I plan on it! I'm going to run the benchmark at max settings 1080p and then at 4k with DSR :3

No. 4690k and a 970.

I am that person running 5720x1080 triple monitor surround on a single 970.

Wow this is pretty amazing. Didn't expect that sort of capability on such lower-end hardware. I'm still not willing to buy 4k monitors yet though.

It means that the game doesn't look that good.

Optimization is done for software to efficiently utilize hardware. But you can't magically make something look stunning and yet run on a GTX 660 at 60 fps, or 4K 30 fps.

This game was one of the things that tipped me over the edge when it came to buying a 4KTV. I can't go back to 1080p gaming now. The GTX 980 performs very well at 4K, with minimal reduction in settings to get average FPS of 60fps. This is based on Far Cry 4, Batman Arkham Origins, Grid Autosport, Crysis 3, and i guess most importantly, Max Payne 3.

of course not. I don't think anyone is/was expecting low end hardware to run gtav 4k/30fps at max settings.

I'll have to try it out myself to see, if what they say is true. Crap don't have a 4K monitor and 99% of the people out there don't have it either, even if they had bought a "4k" screen.

noice.

i start with 4k no AA around "high" and see if the game chokes. some titles do fine, some don't. if it does choke, i will simply go with 1440p maxed out. people forget that a good 4k display will be able to run lower supported resolutions if you need to.

Some people think low-end GPUs are able to run this game at high settings 60 fps 1080p (or 4K 30 fps) because it's optimized well. I was just saying it actually means the game doesn't look too good on high settings. Because if it did, you'd need a much faster GPU.

or it means the settings that were used to get 4k/30fps with a 7870 were low? Or the recommended hardware is for medium settings? We won't know until the game releases :)

is there any proof he's a dev? and regardless, we still don't know what "high" settings are. There's, i think, 27 different variables you can change in the settings
