Project "All Out" - FX 6300/GTX 760 - REVISION 2.0 - Inspired by the Inwin D Frame

byalexandr

Hello everyone! So I am currently working on my "new" PC, based on my HP Pavilion Slimline (lol). I am welding together a new chassis and slowly replacing parts, the chassis being based on In Win's D Frame/ D Frame Mini. Here is a picture of the current point of the build:

Here are some pics of the previous (slightly modded) PC:

This could be interesting.

So I am making the chassis out of 1/2" EMT, otherwise known as electrical conduit. Electricians use this stuff to run wires in an orderly fashion, and it's pretty cheap. The tricky part is the welding, because the stuff is really, really thin. Bending can be done with a special hand bender and a little math.

witting, no I don't but this is as far as I got before I ran out of welding wire. Just think of this with more cross-braces and a tray/side panel that holds hardware.

It's basically a D Frame from In Win...  :)

Update! Here is the chassis welded up and galvanized/primed to prevent rusting. I will most likely paint it red to (sort of) match my new hardware I am going to get soon (hopefully for Christmas???):

Excuse the blurriness. My Nokia 1020 isn't the absolute best at auto focus.

Guess I should post current specs:

AMD Athlon X2 64 240 (lol)

GT 610 (it works enough for BF3)

4GB DDR2

500GB Hitachi HDD

Future Specs/Additions:

Pentium G3240

GTX 750 Ti

4GB DDR3

32GB cache SSD

Let me know what you think of the build so far!

Update! (even though no one goes on this thread anymore...  :( )

I've almost finished. Just needs painting, but other than that I am currently typing this update on the new build.

This is just the framework.

Here is with motherboard tray, etc. welded on. I made this with parts from the old case as well as steel brackets.

And here are a few shots with it put together, without paint and plexiglass, of course.

Let me know (if anyone actually sees this  :( ) what you think and if looks even close to an In Win D Frame.

Cheers! More updates to come.

Thats because the Nokia focused on the chair not the frame :) Interesting project I will keep an eye on!

Looks very good I like the idea of making it yourself! Is it real metal or something else.

Update! Happy Thanksgiving everybody! I hope everyone has something to be thankful for. So far I have finished painting. I started red but ran out so I used white. I will probably make "bumpers" like the D Frame has in an orange or red to match my upcoming parts. Here are pictures:

post-2597-0-56926400-1417133944_thumb.jp

This is the first paint job; I got most of it, as it seems from this angle, but I didn't have enough for the bottom.

post-2597-0-86394300-1417134092_thumb.jp

Here it is with all of the white paint and loaded with the hardware.

So all I have left is to make some sort of bumper system like In Win's D Frame ( or not, let me know) and add plexi glass to protect the components. Let me know what you guys think of the build as it is and where it's going to go. Again, happy Thanksgiving! More updates to come, so stay tuned. Also, updated future parts list:

AMD Athlon 5350 (I need a quad core so I am getting this instead of a G3220 or G3240)

AM1 Micro or Mini ITX Motherboard

4GB DDR3 ( I am currently on DDR2 lol)

32GB cache SSD

GTX 750Ti (Zotac/Orange)

Yes, it is EMT conduit. It is very thin wall metal pipe that electricians use. Pain to weld, but I managed.  :)

  • 4 weeks later...

Update!

Although I'm pretty sure no one follows this thread anymore, I'd like to point out that the build is almost complete. The only thing left is new components, which may be quite a while, and a smoked acrylic window. I bought more red paint and added rubber bumpers. Pic:

This is going to be last update for a while, as I don't yet have the money for new components. Thanks everyone!

I have that same card. :P

Lol, it gets done what I need to get done. Hopefully I will swap it for a 750 Ti or even a 970.

So, this sort of an update, I though I would post more pictures, but also show the new acrylic I put in. I hand cut the thing (a pain, really) and mounted it to the rubber bumpers with zip ties, which turned out to be quite elegant. Pics:

Shots were taken with the almost ancient Nikon D40. More updates to come, but not for quite some time. Thanks again everyone!
