Futuremark launches world’s first 4K ‘Ultra HD’ benchmark

The buzz around 4K gaming has been growing fast this year, with many enthusiasts adopting new monitors as they come down in price but until now, there hadn’t been an Ultra HD benchmarking tool available. Futuremark has officially released Fire Strike Ultra, the world’s first 4K benchmark, which is now available to use in the latest version of 3DMark.

I honestly dont think anyone is ready for 4K yet. It requires so much horsepower to keep a good consistent frame rate across all games to have a good experience. maybe in a couple of years after the proccess node has shrinked a bit; we will be ready.

this should be very interesting seeing how hot they get, considering playing BF4 my cpu bottlenecks my entire system so i never even get close to 70% usage, let alone 100%

check Linus SLi scaling guide, it is more about optimising games for multi gpus than raw horsepower

It's not magic and there's nothing to debunk. Its because the memory bandwidth on AMD gpus is much larger. Nvidia uses an algorithm to recycle old textures to compensate for their smaller bandwidth, which at resolutions like 1080p works quite nicely, the problem is that the algorithm doesn't scale up to higher resolutions very well. The data still needs to be crammed through the same amount of space, and the amount of throughput required for 4K is too much for 'texture recycling' to handle.

Run the benchmark anyway just to see what happens. I'm curious to see how fermi handles 4k but I'm to lazy to swap in my GTX 580.

Crashed when loading 3rd test... averaged 1.25ish FPS. Demo was literally like a slide show.
