Windows update might Make your PC Brick! (Also possible Fix)

M-ursu

(Sorry if already posted, but i did not find anything)

As we have even seen on the forum that so many people have been issuing BSODs and issues that you cant boot to windows.
Microsoft released one optional update (KB2975719) and one non optional (KB2982791) update if you update these you might issue mentioned issues.
This cant corrupt your UEFI/BIOS so do not worry.

How to fix if you already installed these updates?

Method 1:
Try to restore windows from an earlier point.
Method 2:
Press F8 on boot then select repair PC
Go to command prompt:
Delete: C:\Windows\System32\FNTCACHE.DAT

Do not Update Windows 8, 8.1 and 7 before this issue have been fixed!

No issue on my side on any system, including work PCs.

My guess is that some users used a registry cleaners at some point in time or system tweak tools that changed system files or pirated software that changes system files or had a virus or malware at some point in time (as the A.V can only remove them, not fix the damage it has done to the system), and the update has break their system.

And because it's Windows 8, and Microsoft, a click bait article is made.

There is no detail on anything. Oh! someone had a problem. Quick! panic panic panic!!!.... Please.

I stand on my view until more details are offered. Not even a description of the update is provided or the BSOD error. It could be a faulty memory error for all we know.

The update offers:

- Settings changes for Update and Recovery

- Precision touchpad improvements

- Ruble symbol update

- Out-of-date ActiveX control blocking

- Wi-Fi Direct APIs for Discoverability

- Video capture metadata for MP4

- Minimizing Logon Prompts for Microsoft SharePoint Online

Based on Microsoft KB article. I see nothing that can 'cause a BSOD.

On windows 8.1pro and no issues with the aug updates as of yet.  Is this a 32-bit problem?

:Edit: NVM KB2975719 is an optional update(as stated in OP) and has not yet been installed.

think I'll be making a new clone image of my system a bit earlier then I had planned just to be on the safe side.

Welp. Windows automatically installed both updates last night.

Shit. Here's hoping it doesn't crap out on me.
