Dell Reveals Their 28" 4k Monitor to be Priced at $699

Last month Dell launched a pair of UltraSharp monitors boasting 4K resolution, and dangled a sweet carrot in front of our early adopting paws: a forthcoming 28-inch Ultra HD monitor that would retail for less than $1000. Today at CES 2014 Dell revealed it, along with an aggressive price tag: $699.

The P2815Q packs an IPS LED display will have a full 3840 x 2160 4K resolution. It launches globally on January 23. Dell hasn’t yet discussed things like refresh rate or range of inputs (I’m sure DisplayPort is a given), but they do promise the same “screen performance” as the new UltraSharp 32 and UltraSharp 24 Ultra HD monitors. That’s certainly encouraging since their UltraSharp line is normally a cut above when it comes to professional displays.

UPDATE: I now have confirmation of the P2815Q’s full specs, and have listed them below. Unfortunately, it tops out at 30Hz 3840 x 2160 and 60Hz for 1920 x 1080. This should prove a deal breaker for gamers, but the monitor still has a solid feature set for the asking price.

Panel tech: Anti-glare TN (not IPS which was previously rumored)
Connections: DisplayPort (v 1.21)/Mini-DisplayPort, HDMI 1.4 (MHL 2.0), DispayPort out (MST), 1 USB upstream, 4 x USB 3.02 downstream (including 1 USB charging port with BC1.2 compliance devices on back)
Color Depth: 1.073 billion colors
Viewing angle: 170 degrees
Response time: 5ms
Brightness: 300 cd/m2
Power Consumption: 75W

Now that is an attractive price. Hopefully we can see 4k monitors in the 24" range coming soon as well. 28" is too big for my desk sadly :/ The model# for the Dell 28" is P2815Q.

*Update edit, now that it's revealed to only be 30Hz at 4k and it's a TN panel, then it's a no buy from me.

The only trouble is needing to spend twice that amount on graphics cards to be able to play at 4k :/

But its TN :(

Then buy the UP2414Q it should be available shortly and will feature an IPS panel with 99% AdobeRGB and 100% sRGB coverage and 178/178 degree viewing angles, an 8 ms GTG response time, a contrast ratio of 1,000:1 (dynamic contrast ratio is 2,000,000:1), a media card reader, a 4-port USB 3.0 hub, HDMI, DisplayPort and Mini DisplayPort inputs, and a stand enabling tilt, swivel, pivot and height adjustment. Also it costs $1,399.

This could be the perfect monitor to pair with my 6 Dell P2414H's that I have in portrait orientation. I'll have to check the specs when they are released on Dell's website.

But its TN :(

But it won't be a shitty TN panel. It's an UltraSharp, Dell won't compromise that branding by releasing something that displays like crap.

Go, Dell, go!

Edit: Not an UltraSharp, just can't read correctly.

Still probably won't be a terrible panel.

Go, Dell, go!

Based on the model number P2815Q. The P stands for Professional. So it won't be an UltraSharp exactly. But I did do some quick research and it looks like all of the P Series monitors from Dell have an IPS panel. If the 4K monitor has a TN panel I'll be amazed.

Yeah, that was my bad. Though I can't imagine it'll be among the terrible TN panels, it certainly won't be a beauty like IPS is.

I believe they are trying to get rid of the US name. Most new monitors coming from Dell are using the P name instead. I'm surprised the 24" 4k monitor is even using the US branding.

Not really. The top models (also all the new ones) are U models. The mid-Range models are the P models, all more or less budget friendly.

A lot of P models had TN panels, but with the latest update many of them switched over to IPs panels.
