Which can i get more performance out of - 1080 TI vs RTX 2080

OttoVonBismarck

hey there, so i'm interested in playing games generally at 1440p and 1440p UW (3440x1440) just as a point of reference.

the 1080 TI and the RTX 2080 come in at very similiar price points, and seemingly performance too. I'm wondering which would be better overall for a system. I know that the RTX sports the ray tracing and the DLSS, but are these huge deals?

Additionally, which of the 2 cards overclocks better?

The 2080 barely edges out the 1080 Ti, both overclock in a similar range, although the 2080 is severely power limited and has 2 chip variations, one overclocking considerably better than the other. And no, no RTX feature seem to be worth anything at the moment, and probably will stay like that, I wouldn't be surprised if only the next gen, that won't take much to come out, is capable of anything really.

If the price difference is not a big deal to you, get the 2080.  It is newer tech and faster overall.

That's what I've been saying here, if price difference is small or negligible, get the RTX 2080.....just don't get FE versions, go for AIBs' cards like MSI, Asus, Palit, Zotac and the like.

I got the 2080 800USD awesome card 1440ultra/4Khigh/ultra worth it for the price I slap in BO4 Blackout seems to max out my Vram also GTA 5 fully mod it I get FPS drops and hindered performance  now 800USD doesn’t make sense at all. So I slap in my 1080ti I play GTA V and Blackout smooth as butter 4K Ultra. The 2080 with 8GB Vram is meant for 1440p bit of 4K on some titles just keep that in mind, it runs flawlessly at 1440ultra . I’m not dumping 500 more for a 2080ti. DLSS might help the 2080 down the road.

If you are getting rtx cards, dont buy FE version,it seems that they die pretty quickly. Get AIB cards (msi,asus,zotac,gigabyte...)

Considering the price difference is not really a real issue when buying new, get the 2080. It's a tad bit faster and they do overclock pretty great even with the power limits Nvidia put on it. Just get the AIB card and not an FE one.

People love to compare the most expensive 2080 they find to the cheapest 1080 Ti, but in reality the prices are very, very similar when comparing "low-end" cards or "High-end" cards together.

I like zip-tying Intel stock coolers on graphics cards.

Well, with Nvidia, you just can't win. If you buy a high end model with high max power limit, you hit Nvidia's voltage spec, so there's nothing you can do about it.

The rtx 2080 is only 1% faster then the gtx 1080ti,a reference 1080ti with a good overclock can give you 12% boost which is almost at the 2080ti which is 18.35% faster then a 1080ti, unless you're going to play Battlefield 5 with raytracing I would suggest the 1080ti.

For 4k get the 1080 ti for the extra vram. For 1440p id just get whichever is cheaper.

I’m no where near the power limit of the normal fee let alone custom pcb

i hover around 80 percent in power limit

and have to force the card to run at 1.093v to get it to stay at 2000mhz
