Depends on the situation. When inside a safe place(house, car whatever), it is totally fine, but in a dark forest at night? NOPE 

Bears and wolves are no fun, especially if you can't see them, but can hear them.

i'm really scared of the dark. i get very anxious if i'm at a place outside at night where there's no lights, and i can't sleep without a light on... i'll just recall a bunch of scary movies i've seen and stuff and then i can't fall asleep. 

 

i also get anxious when it's totally silent. i can't sleep without having some kind of audio, usually a replay of a gaming stream or something... or sometimes music. i just put my phone on my nightstand playing audio when i sleep...

When i was a kid i used to be the same. Eventualy stoped with the radio being left on, then later turned the light down (adjustable light switch), then off completly.

The funny thing is i remember that a totaly pitch black room was much better for me at that time then one that you could still make out objects.

 

Funny thing is, im now the total opposite, i much prefer the dark. If not for work and living with others, i would spend most of my wakeing hours during the evening, night, and early morning with not more than a dim light on to reduce eye strain while looking at a screen.

 

That high pitch tone you hear may well be Tinnitus , probably  mild form if you only notice it in silent environments. I have it myself, most of the time i dont notice it but when i listen out for it or am in a silent room, like at night, it can be rather aggrivating. You learn to tune it out though.

 

one of the relaxing thigns about the dark i find is that you can keep your eyes open and have them fully relaxed as your not automaticlay focusing on somthing.

 

Though i find the most relaxing environment being outside at the dead of night, no lights , pitch black, with fresh rain coming down after a long period of dry weather, that smell ... Petrichor... so nice.

Hmm I love the dark, combined with silence.

What I don't like is when my sound echoes when I'm in complete darkness, it can drive me crazy.

Used to have a phobia of night but then I grew out of it. I suppose now its the feeling of isolation if I'm far from home.

I am afraid of the dark, I get all worked up and stressed. I always have some lights on in every room I can see into at night, because dark rooms just really freak me out and I can't relax even when awake, let alone if I were trying to sleep. It's all the worse at night, too, with my heart-rate very much elevated all throughout the night and me being all tense like a spring until daylight shows up.

i do that too. every room i can see i turn some light on.

that not so much. as long as i have a light on everywhere i can see and i'm at home i'm fine.

Yeah, I just have some traumatic experiences in the past and it's left me with some...issues. It's just so annoying how I technically know that there's nothing there, in the dark, but I just can't stop feeling the dread. No matter how much I try to rationalize things, what I feel inside just doesn't want to listen. It also makes me feel fucking stupid to be afraid of the dark like that

same. if i'm in a dark room or at night where there is no street lighting or whatever i start feeling dread too.

I don't care about the dark. If it's dark, it's fine, if it's not, i'm not fussed.

 

Silence however, I enjoy. It means that I don't have to listen to people's bullshit.

Not a huge fan of darkness but i really don't mind it, it is what it is.

Depends on the situation. I prefer some light and noise while sleeping, but outside it's nice to be perfectly silent.
