NVME M.2 SSD on Gigabyte Z77-UD5H

I was thinking about getting an NVME adaptor card from Silverstone to throw in my slightly dated but fast Gigabyte Z77-UD5H motherboard with a 3770k (https://www.scan.co.uk/products/silverstone-ec21-m2-ngff-nvme-to-pci-e-x4-adapter-card-converts-m2-port-m-key-into-one-pci-e-x4-inte). Will I receive the benefits over a SATA SSD using this setup or is the board too old to support this tech?

more of a trade-off. Z77 boards (most of them anyway) don't support boot through PCIe storage, however they can all read data from it after boot. In other words, it can't be a boot drive like SATA SSD, but can be a fast app storage and scratch disk for things like Premiere Pro and games.

Recon the sensible solution is to go for a raid zero setup with a backup drive, seems like an inexpensive way of increasing performance. What do you think?

you need at least 3 HDDs in RAID 0 to match a SATA SSD, which then takes 3-5 of them in RAID 0 to match an NVMe SSD. It's an inexpensive way to get a lot of fast storage yes, but still won't be nearly as fast as NVMe SSDs without bloating up the cost to unreasonable levels.

I am pretty sure that you can flash a modified bios and be able to boot from NVME after that. I might be able to patch the latest bios if you feel like taking your chances.

Jo wont realy se a perfomance upgrade form NVMe to sata ssd in day to day use.
