Have You Ever Felt Burnt Out on a Forum?

Stupid question to ask, but have you ever felt burnt out on any sort of forum or discussion group? If so, why?

Personally, I feel kinda burned out from LTT largely because, frankly, I feel like I'm way too controversial for my own good, and it never tends to bode well. That and tech in general is hard to keep up with.

Yeah, it happens. People and places tend to reach their saturation point very quickly with me. It happens more so on forums because of how accessible they are. Cycles show themselves quicker than most offline situations. There are only so many times a day you can read about bottlenecks or get yelled at for how you spend your own money.

You can burn out on anything. It's just human nature and is completely normal.

i feel this sometimes too. i always seem to be on the "wrong side" of the big button issues, ie liking Nvidia/Intel/windows 10 etc.

 

but ultimately it comes down to the fact that i dont care what people think of me.

I'm less active then I once was but that is because most topics I answered where questions but they just keep reappearing with the same problem.

I could copy past most answers in at this point, golden tip before making a post .. google it

 

Often I just google the answer and select with common sense & knowledge what'd apply; or I just speak from experience either one.

 

Burnt out on the LTT Forums?
Nah, just not making 5-10 posts a day like I did at some point ^^

A week-long break can do wonders, I sometimes don't check the forums for five days just to then rejoice at reading all I missed

Some people here tend to express their own opinions harshly which always put me in a position (Should I response and start a fight or just let it slide).
It's not cool but I guess that's how people are.

I am surprised the forum mods don't make certain troubleshooting topics a sticky, as I am with you, I see the same issues being asked by new members all the time, some times even on the same page. It's like Googling something doesn't exist...

I pretty much just lurk and write a small thing here.

I think the only forum i'm really "confortable" with commenting and interacting fully is L1.

I used to be very active in 2014 until 2015, then I disappeared in 2016 until 2017.

I got back this year but then I started talking about cars and now here I am....

 

I've taken a look at my activity history and saw my activities in 2014 vs now, I've changed, a lot. Now this forum is like a place to hang out for me, at least for now.

I'm probably going to slow down posting, just like any forum I'm highly active when first joining but then calm down.

 

The thing with LTT is that there's always things that I can see myself joining a discussion on, as long as I'm relatively up to speed on current tech. I was a quite a prominent member of the Black Mesa Source Forums, many years back, but there aren't as many subsections there that I found myself participating in, and the variety of threads wasn't as good. I generally found myself in the Steam group chat instead, where we had a smaller tighter knit bunch. I don't know if that fits the description of 'burning out' on a forum, but it sure felt like it.

I straddle a fine line between just liking anime and anime tiddy like a everyday normie to full on cringe weeb trash.  Its a real struggle at times.

Though if you do need a break for a little while I wouldn't necessarily say thats a bad thing.  Usually for me I'm away during the weekends and that helps me alot.

I have been coming here everyday for 4 years. I feel if you say you are burned out answering questions try asking them. Dive into a new topic and ask away. I know in the past for really specific things the forum couldn't answer I figured out on my own and then was able to answer the same question when it popped up

Yeah that tends to help I try to make topics in the console section even though I know its less traveled in these parts but there are some really interesting niches and things you can find once you get outside the bustling tech news section and CPU/GPU threads

Whilst I have been subscribed to LTT for a while, I actually only recently started checking out the forums regularly as the one I used to frequent really pissed me off... and I still need my forum fix.

 

Long story short, one of the senior moderators decided it would be ok to come into a discussion and drop sweeping offensive statements about everyone that disagreed with him on a political topic. When I highlighted that he was using politicians words as support for his perspective, but dismissing others political opinions because "politicians lie", and this was quite a hypocritical position to take, I was threatened with a suspension.

I highlighted that my supposed breaking of the community guidelines was no worse than his early sweeping offensive statement, and suggested we could discuss the topic "offline" to try and clean up the posts and keep the conversation civil, and he suspended me claiming that it had nothing to do with the position I held was only to do with insults.

 

My final response before I got suspended got quite a lot of support from that community and I know a number of other members who also left after this. I certainly wont be logging back in.

 

Possibly a little OT... but I feel like I have needed to have a little rant about that for a while.

I've left forums before but not from burnout. For example, I'm barely active anymore over on OCN because the company that bought the forum did an extremely bungled transition from a discontinued platform to an inferior one and the FUBAR has become a SNAFU due their developers incompetence and managerial apathy. I left one because of inappropriate moderation (I was being trolled by a mod who claimed i was trolling because I disagreed with him on the difference between redundancy and backups; you would think I kicked his dog) and I'm barely active on another because the owner and mods have driven away most of the former members with their moderation and the adoption of a crappy forum platform.

 

Another one I haven't visited in a while is because it got lonely there...and I'm a mod there. Activity is low there because it's almost possible to get past a misbegotten CAPTCHA just to register to the forum so membership is really low. In fact, that is one reason I'm a mod there; it wqs the only way the forum owner could get me on there because I also couldn't get past that accursed CAPTCHA (may the clown who invented them roast).

 

I've also left a forum due to inadequate moderation.

I mean we move on, tastes change and you get bored by things that would previously interest you.

 

Take a break from the forum, I only go on here when I wanna know something, although most people on here know very little themselves (ie: recommend me some ram for this laptop, rather than looking it up for themselves)

sometimes I only read the tech news section, sometimes I just scroll through, sometimes I answer to posts... I guess it's normal to be not hyperactive on a forum all the time.

I got sick of all these "apple go fuck yourself " threads. 

 

Normally just chill, update some status. And post some stuff under programming section. 

Got a lot of helps from other forum members.
