LTT Official Folding Month 2018!!!

Go to solution Solved by palespartan,

I figured I would take advantage of the fact this post hasn't been locked yet to spread the word about this years folding month.

Folding month 2019!!

See the thread for detail and don't forget to spread the word!!!

@leadeater you can now lock this one.

-Thanks

I think both of my rigs just went offline, no major WUs for hours... I might take a hit this next report, but at least I learned something.

Anyone else experiencing little hiccups like this?

as a 24/7/365 folding I have seen many many hiccups like this, you just have to try to work through them, its always when its the worst time for them to happen that they happen. Like when I was away for a week.

Not so far - fingers crossed. You might have had a power bump or the internet connection could have gone down.

It is odd that both systems went off-line.

I can hardly wait for all the screams when Microsoft forces everyone to reboot spontaneously for this months round of updates to Windows 10.

The nice thing is that you should have only lost a maximum of the last 14 minutes of work due to the checkpoints that are saved by the FAHClient

I JUST WENT THROUGH THIS. I turned off the side folder while messing with the overclocks, and lo and behold there was an update. It completely messed up the settings and broke my FAH client.

Jokes on you, I'm running windows 10 that old it doesn't even receive auto updates! It just screams at me about being unsupported by Microshit from October 2017.

Hah - I'm running Linux and I can update if I choose to and not even have to reboot.

The only system running Windows 10 that will annoy me is my daily driver and that one's only earning 50,000PPD

2 Linux Systems - 800,000PPD

4 Windows 10 - 80,000PPD

I’m driving these 3 Asus PA248s off a FirePro W4100 that sips power. I have one Display Port left but no desk space (if you can call two 6’ 12x1 planks on top of two filing cabinets a desk)

If it can hold keyboard mouse and your monitors id call it a really good desk. lol

On the first day of the event we have seen four people take more than half of all the points for the event members. We have, rather expectly, King Poet in first place with just shy of 5 million points, with a sizeable gap to myself with 2.3 million.. Porina and Gorgon coming up in the next group both just a little over 1.8 million. Dissit and Palespartan are both hovering around the 1.5 million point mark for today. Givintvt, TVwazhere and stilnman are coming in at the 1 million point park. RollinLower seems to not have made his mind up in he wants to move further up into the top 10 sitting at a comfortable 950k. And that concludes top 10 watch! Thank you all for participating and thanks for reading, the shear number of you guys involved has really astounded me, to the point where I’ve completely had the change the way we track and comment on your results. But the real question is, who can take the heat? Can @King Poet keep on screaming ahead without dropping the protein. Can @Ben Quigley hold onto number two or will @porina come and smoke him out. @Gorgon is right up there and is poised to try to push into the top three but does he has the steam, er, silicon for such a maneuver. @palespartan is so close to getting into the top 5 if only he could push his rigs that little bit harder. But, there's only one way to find out, and that's to read on tomorrow!  Also guys, don’t forget we are keeping a close eye on Mr Laz0r @Jamesas he is the only LMG staff to join I guess we should give him so special attention, at 670K he hasn’t impressed so far. But he has the chance to really make a splash if he can thing on his feet and convince Linus to help him out, we will see how it goes over the month!

Just so you all know if you name doesn’t appear above then you haven’t produced any points for TeamLTT since the start of the event, if you think this is wrong please drop me a PM with your EOC Link and we can try to find the issue!

Happy folding,

Ben.

Awesome post. Went full on announcing yourself in third person and everything. I really have my systems on the edge here though. But if my knee gets the green light on Monday I might have one trick left...

Its been a while since Ive seen a cpu heavy setup. Would be cool to see how they still hold up.

Just got FAH running on my machine. First tried on my openSUSE install, then with ubuntu 18.10 and after much coffee admitted my lack of skill. And for just to get to see how this works with my computer I am now running this on Win 10.

Yeah I went through the same hell trying to get it set up on an ubuntu server install. Gave up on the project and went back to windows 10.

I would have so much more had I remembered to hit 'Fold' on my PC yesterday morning... :( Today is a new day, however, I won't let the LTT folding team down! :)

Good news is we still have 29 days. lol

So, I've been having this issue of my computer freezing after folding for like three minutes, no matter what power the folding is at.

Don't just adjust performance with the slider from light to medium to full. Check your overclocks since folding is a different work load it might be crashing your cpu. And also read up on the guides for optimization since that will help stability and PPD a lot. Also if you are GPU folding remember to leave 2 threads open. One for OS and one for GPU overhead.

Yeah Linus needs to take a break from the 7 video editors box and stress test all those GPUs for a few weeks. I'm pretty sure it will work the kinks out of it.

Depends on the cpus, I am using my dual socket rig to fold with a 1060. I am getting about 300k PPD from my gpu and about 150k from the cpus. I have two of the x5690 in this system running at about 3.46ghz but I considering OCing over the weekend.

Think rig is offline. Haven't seen any activity on extreme overclocking or folding @ home stat site.

Will have to see what it's upto on Monday. Flat internet has probably dropped and not recovered.

EDIT: we're alive! Folding @ home stat page updated. Just waiting for extreme overclocking to update too.

How long does it take for the page to update?

I'm now getting my CPU included in the folding month, because I was thoroughly disappointed that my GPU had generated 50K off 1 WU.

I feel like the algorithm is losing faith in me because I essentially left my folding on pause for 15 hours.

I think most of the WUs for GPUs are worth 50k, that's what mine get. It's really a matter of how fast they are completed, and all of them really add up over time.

Its been a while since Ive seen a cpu heavy setup. Would be cool to see how they still hold up.

I've got 3 dual E5-2667 servers CPU folding with another 6 I could immediately start now if I want, with another 9 ish in another dev rack that I might be able to get running but effort so meh.

What I don't know is if those 3 servers are folding properly, like they are Ubuntu Server and the install kicked up an error but the client still runs and I can see CPU load but if I check iLO it tells me the CPU load is only around 20% but the system power draw is just under 500W (that's just CPU load). Top shows me 2400% CPU load and htop similar, so could be working well or not, no idea.

Haven’t tried CPU folding under ‘nix but top should give you a pretty good idea if all cores are running. If you have a GUI you should be able to run the Python client and see how many cores.

or telnet to port 36330 on local host and type help

cant remember off the the cuff where it puts config.xml but that should have cpus set to -1 by default which is use all cores

Can't it's ubuntu server so CLI only and the servers are behind firewalls of doom so I can't actually connect to them from a workstation to check, not without putting a firewall change request through and I'm not exactly supposed to be running FAH on these ?

slot-info

PPD seems a bit low but it can take a few minutes to creep up.

500W per chassis or for all?

TDP per proc is 135W

Xeons are much lower clocked than the HEDT desktop counter parts so I wouldn't expect it to be all that high. E5-2667 are only 6 core CPUs as well, they are high frequency variants that we needed at the time. They have been running all night.

I've got a few E5-2690 servers that might be able to put up a better showing.

I'm gettting 30,000PPD of 6 threads on a e3-1231v3 which is the same lithography and 3.4GHz so your yield is close when scaled
