Why you shouldn't have more than one warranty

Extremematt52
Here's a fun story. My laptop almost set my backpack on fire, I call customer service tell me that updating my BIOS will fix the issue, that messes up my color gamut , then I explain that they messed up my laptop, then they they say "we can send it in for repairs and it'll take 10 business days". I have sent in my laptop for repairs twice and fixed it once myself. I explain to them that I already did the same repairs they are going to offer through the manufacturer and that didn't fix my issue and I am wasting my time having a 3rd party retailer fix the same issue, AND THEN, they tell me that's the only service they can offer. Now, why did I waste my time with Dell who didn't fix my laptop just to have you not fix my laptop?

I think I need to clarify this because people seem confused, I only purchased the accidental damage warranty because i'm a klutz. The other 3 warranties were included in the purchase and only cover technical support.

A more detailed post would be nice.

That said, you usually don't need more than one warranty in my experience at least.

Sorry I posted this prematurely and I didn't get the chance to edit it fast enough. It's better now

Under Australian consumer law, a product should last a reasonable amount of time. If the manufactures warranty is only 1 year, it doesn't mean it's out of warranty, it's out of warranty when the expected life of the product is over, and for a laptop IMO that should be at least 3 years.

It's a pain to do those kinds of claims, but you can. Flexrent and every extended warranty that Harvey Norman may try and sell you, do nothing that the Australian Consumer Law won't give you for free.

I actually live in the US. I have 4 warranties on my Laptop through 2022 and it's just that they don't communicate at all so I have to go through the same process even if i'm having the same issue. In this example I have the dell warranty and then the Costco (retailer) warranty. Dell "fixed" the issue then it came up again after my manufacturer warranty expired. So now I don't want to have the retailer do the same repairs and waste my time when I'm in college for pre-medicine and I need a computer to go to school.

Complain to the retailer. The warranty work should be of a satisfactory standard, or fit for purpose. If it failed again, it clearly wasn't. You deserve a replacement or refund (which is part of the ACL), and you can probably push you way to get to that point.

Just return it for a refund at the store you purchased it from (Costco), and not a repair. Show them the list of warranty claims you've already made on the product and state that the laptop is still malfunctioning and that the quality of the product is not satisfactory and you are entitled to a refund of the full purchase price of the laptop.

Yeah. They are cunts. Their entire pay structure is based upon flexirent and extended warranties, plus  OEM copies of Norton are just profit. If they don't sell enough, they don't get their sale's commision.

(OEM copies of norton cost them $2, and they'll make it sound like the $70 copies of norton on the shelf, which they'd pay more for).

This is common sense, yes, BUT my realtor has a 2 year warranty, then the credit card that I bought the laptop on has a warranty (included) not to mention the manufacturer. I bought the accidental damage warranty because I am an absolute animal and I have messed up my laptop before and didn't have the warranty and this was a 2000 machine and the warranty was only $100 so I got it in case I did something. Now that I have a manufacturing defect I am ripping my hair out.

Reminds me of my 1000XM2, which I incidentally also bought from Harvey.

Store: Would you like extended warranty with that sir?

Me: No thanks.

Store: You sure? Manufacturer only covers set defects for a year while we can cover more.

Me: No, I'm good.

Store: But what if-

Me: I said I'm good. May I have my headphones now?

Funnily enough, the only thing that I actually have purchased extended warranty for is my Note8.

I have litterally been on the phone with costco, square trade, and dell for the past 4 hours explaining that I have gone through 3 repairs and it hasn't worked and I want a new system, but because the manufacturer warranty expired I can't get a new system through dell and squaretrade/ costco want to repair it themselves before replacing it

Honestly, you don't need to register for warranty these days.

Just keep the original receipt. That's often more than enough to file for a potential warranty claim

I am going to let them do it when I have time but for now when the laptop is "usable" and I am in classes I can't afford to go 2 weeks without a machine to use for my classes when literally every single class requires me to have a working machine.

Increasing basket size and upselling is how they make their money. It's just like the supermarket puts the milk at the back so you have to walk past everything else in the store to get to it. The cost of the TVs are often "CRAZY DISCOUNT CRAZY PRICE" that they yell about on the TV ads just to get people in to the store and making a purchase, but when you get to the store to buy it they won't leave you alone until you buy a $500 bluray player, a $2000 sound bar w/ surround speakers, 3 HDMI cables for $70 each, and extended, largely useless, warranties for the TV, Bluray player, and soundbar.
Before you know it that 'bargain' $1000 4k TV just cost you $4000.
