My dad said this is the last gift before I go to college and I don't know which one should I choose.

Absolutely a new PC. Unless you are never at home and need a decent on the go device.
A nice phone is more of a luxury than a nice PC. You can do actual work on a good PC.

Thanks man.

I vote for an ultrabook for school. Realistically if you're going away to college, you're not going to have a ton of time for gaming; save that for after graduation.

If you have a phone which still works and does everything you want it to do, get a decent laptop.

Since it’s for studies, aim for something which has good battery life and solid performance while also being capable of playing some moderately demanding titles at fluid framerates

I would recommend a laptop.  Something with decent battery life for when you’re just taking notes in class and doing homework, and with some horsepower on the side that can do some gaming when plugged in.

like the Dell G3.  Hell, my 7559 lasts me all day on battery, then after finishing homework, I just plug it in and play some games.

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.

I'd go with a laptop, but honestly, seriously, make sure it's a good one. Don't skimp out on it because of costs or whatever; it should be something with a good amount of power. Not too much power, though, because then the laptop will be too non-portable to take to class.

Also keep notebooks handy. When I was in university there were a handful of professors who didn't allow laptops in class (or automatically assumed that if you had a laptop, you were on facebook instead of taking notes).

Phone doesn't need to be refresh every year. Heck, you can still use a flip phone. What is need is a laptop to carry to your classes and do your school work on.

Don't use it to replace your pen and paper for note taking however. It is there to assist your note taking, not replacing it.

A phone is way cheaper and lasts for a looong time. And even "budget" phones nowadays are godlike, so a notebook is the obvious choice.

Ultra is stupid. ALWAYS.

What phone are you running right now? What is your current laptop/desktop? How much is your dad willing to spend?

As most people have mentioned before, go with the laptop if you are going in to college. If your phone works now, then it doesn't need an upgrade.

You need to make sure the laptop is good (as in good battery life, SSD, and enough power for some gaming when your studying is all done). Some good suggestions have been made already, but I would suggest this Dell but it's battery will not be the greatest.

I personally went with a Macbook Air because of the great speed and battery life. This was five years ago, and that thing is still running like a champ. I could even run some games on it at low settings. It depends on what you want it to do, but a general 'cure all' for students is a Macbook Air. There are some Windows alternatives, like this or this or this so pick your poison.

Let me know what you end up with.

Dell xps is the best student laptop at the moment. It is $1000+ USD though.

Go for the new laptop. Dell XPS or LG Gram with touchscreen are the ones I would go after.
