If you actually read their sentence, you would see that it's their province's rules that's the issue. Not the giveaway's

I got that. I assume he is talking about Quebec. Jay was pretty clear when he said "worldwide". How is Quebec going to stop someone from California shipping a package to someone in Quebec? There's nothing they can do about it. There's nothing they can do to Jay in another country.

Even if he lives in Cali, our countries have agreements with each others that would allow our shitty provincial government to go after him with a hefty fine... and after me as well.
But that would be assuming the government finds out, if nobody talk, ain't nobody finding out.
You must never assume that just because you're not in a specific country, that it means you can fuck with their laws with someone within said country without consequences.

What about customs? He can't label it as a gift, and for insurance reasons he would have to put a value on it even if you don't have to pay the fees to import it... Then there is Canada Post who I personally wouldn't trust... If he sends it via UPS you're f*cked...

I'm sure he won't be sending that big box via the post office. He'll surely use UPS, FedEx, etc. Sure, he'd have to make a customs declaration, but nowhere on there does it require him to say it's the prize from a contest.

Sure, technically they could try extradition against Jay (or whatever the equivalent of extradition is for a non-arrestable offense), but there's NO WAY they're going to bother with international extradition for something so minor.

Also, what I have read about these Quebec laws on sweepstakes is that they only apply to prizes with a value over $2,000. If that's true, then Jay's giveaway isn't governed by those laws. He said the value was $1,187 USD, which is only $1,550 CAD. You should be good.

well that depends it would fall under other (if shipped via USPS) and that requires a explanation, but you think UPS is going to let it go threw if they see a prize going to Quebec? Importation requires all documentation which likely includes all required laws inside said province. That's why I doubt it would even make it past UPS/customs... It would be held up and likely shipped back.

 

It's a risk they likely wouldn't take because if UPS FedEX catches on they won't let it in and either report it or send it back due to the law (after requesting for the required paperwork, likely).
