1080ti or wait for 1180?

So I've been looking around and configuring a whole new PC (https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/user/ghosty989/saved/C3m8YJ) for my last year at university doing game design (3Ds Max, Substance Painter, UE4, Photoshop) as well as loads of gaming. I recently picked up a 32" 4k monitor (https://smile.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07BBRLTRH/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) and moved my 27" 1080p monitor over into 2nd position but my 1070 just isn't cutting it anymore. It's great to run games in 4k but it doesn't feel so good having to turn all the settings down just to get 45fps in some games. I've been thinking about upgrading to a 1080ti so I can pound these pixels into the ground all in 4k glory. That being said I don't know if I should wait for an 1180 sometime in August/September time (which means I would be building my PC during the start of uni), my heart says buy a 1080ti and my head says maybe wait for an 1180. I've never been a fan of waiting for something better because then you'll just be waiting forever.

So should I bite the £700+ bullet and grab a 1080ti or should I wait for some news?

I also wouldn't hate to hear some opinions on my build if anyone cares to comment.

Thanks!

I'd wait it out.

Yeah that's my gut feeling but the more I think about it the more I want to jump on a 1080ti right now

Personally I would wait, chances are the 118 will be cheaper than the 1080ti anyway

Or at least the same price possibly. My problem is I might not get one in the first dash to order them so I could be waiting even longer.

You have a 1070, you'll be fine for one more month :P

A 1080 Ti would be a decent upgrade for me and I have a 1080.

Probably will be but I want a piece of that 50% performance improvement pie

Apparently they have hundreds of thousands of 10 series to sell still...

Yeah leftovers from the mining craze I believe, could be doing Nvidia a favour

Because Pascal is still plenty powerful enough for most gamers, theres absolutely no reason for them to release anything more powerful just yet.

Hundreds of thousands in the grand scheme of things is relatively tiny compared to GPU sales over a year. Data for 2015 and 2016 point to annual shipments being at least 40 million.

True but gamers aren't their entire consumer base, indeed they are most of it but still not all. Also, people expect upgrades, especially after two years. They also would do it for money, there are tens of thousands of people who would buy the new cards purely to have the latest and greatest thing in their PC, putting out new cards creates a want and a need for them.

They don't always have to release something within two years.

Keep in mind depending on the rumours, the 1180 next month may only be a founders edition card - it may still be another month (2 months away) until we get board partner GTX1180's. All the information is speculative right now, but it might be worth the wait for the announcements so you know where you stand.

Yeah that's another hang up I have, I don't exactly enjoy founders edition cards especially because they're usually somewhat more expensive than board partner ones

I was gonna buy a GTX 1080 Ti SC to upgrade from my R9 290. I can get one used for 520 right now. 290 is painful at 4k. What do yall think? Wait for 1180 to come out and go ahead on this deal? Me waiting would be to hopefully get a better cooled one
