I'd be pretty devastated if its more of a fuck-up than that ;). I have a Powerglove sitting next to my table as a reminder.

Soon my friend. I'm thinking in the next couple of years the price of high quality headsets will be more attractive - plus with foveated rendering we'll be able to use them on any computer!

That's what I'm hoping for as well.

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Agreed. VR still has a long way to go - we and so many other companies are working on this.

Which headset are you talking about?

When I got Oculus it caused me an incredibly painful headache after a hour or two.

I played with the strap a bit more and now I can wear it for 6h+ without it feeling uncomfortable.

I haven't tried the Vive for longer than 20min so I can't compare but Vive have felt a bit heavy on the face.

It was the Vive. It also just got hot and sweaty after an hour or so.

My stats might be slightly off but I think around 6 months ago vive released a revision of the headset. Same specs and geometry but they somehow removed some of the 'guts' and made it 30% lighter. I think the new strap transfers the weight balance slightly better too!

Haha, they did, and it's a massive rip off. It's just the headset, it doesn't include any of the rest of the kit needed to run it, and it's the same price.

@charduff would they work for the Windows Mixed reality headsets because of the different tracking compared to the vive or the oculus

Absolutely. You would need a Windows MR tracker adapter - we haven't posted it on the website yet but one of the guys on the team uses one for development in the office.

An idea I've had about making wearable haptics possibly work would be to somehow attach thrust to them. The super magnet idea is actually pretty neat but what if the haptic devices could say shoot air with enough pressure to give it a noticeable force?

Oh man that would be pretty neat haha.

@charduff Something I didn't think about before, but was mentioned on the WAN show (I just caught up on it today), is the magnetic attachment of the tracker. I imagine you've got some wicked strong magnets in there but even so would you consider the addition of some secondary way to secure the tracker. Another application I didn't think about is one @Slick brought up which was boxing (or direct hand control games in general like volleyball and stuff). Something like that is going to put some serious G's on the glove. Just wondered how much g force the magnet system could be rated for.

this made me think about Pauli's ideas on Background physics, im no expert but the idea you could tap into the unconscious' ability to mimic real world physics perfectly is incredibly interesting

at some point physics becomes psychology

Ok great, now if we could have VR headsets that I could afford to begin with that would be great. Love VR tho, both the Vive and Rift are pretty damn great IMO

Windows MR is on sale all the time somewhere and is much cheaper than the alternatives. It also doesn't need exterior tracking and is much faster to set up.

And they are also not up to the level of the Rift and Vive. At least here they are usually just €50 cheaper and the no tracking behind the field of view makes them kinda meh for games, my so far fave, robo recall would suffer quite a bit from that part alone.

I see what you mean but for me at least I've found the tracking to be fine. The higher resolution screens are also much nicer than the Vive and Rift, but new generations will render that obsolete. €50 is a very small difference though, usually it's more.

For the small price difference I can't really tell you what's better then, kinda sad though since they're much cheaper elsewhere
