sff pc : i5 8600 or r5 2600

planning a new build in the near future and since im going for a sff pc I plan on using the nh-l9i/nh-l9a cpu cooler depending on the cpu brand.

for gaming and (youtube or other stuff on second monitor)  what is the best performance wise i5 8600 or r5 2600? price is no concern. I will NOT be overclocking

If you're looking for an ITX board, go Intel. AMD doesn't have decent options.

If you're not overclocking, I'd go with the Intel.

You probably want Ryzen because it has more multi-threaded performance if it's ever needed, and it's more power efficient with a soldered IHS.

like said above if you're not gonna overclock the ryzen, the performance gap will be immense between the 2, especially in single core. Go intel.

but why woudn't you OC the ryzen it's stupid simple and you can do it in a B350 mobo.

Ima need a number for that, because on average it's only going to be 20fps, when ryzen is already getting over 100fps.

there is no way a 3.9 ryzen can match a 4.3 Intel. Still i have no numbers. But it's fair "immense" might have been a bit over stated :P

They're the same chip really, only difference is out of the box clocks which is easily fixed. Difference is minimal anyways.

the noctua nh-l9i is rated for good and quiet cooling for 65w cpu so overclocking is a no, anyway right now I have a 4790k and havent overclocked

If you're getting an entirely new PC, do you already own that cooler?

Because the Core 500 ITX case and lots of ITX cases support 240mm AIOs now

And Ryzen is efficient enough that you can OC it on the stock cooler even.

In the specific case of the 8600 vs R5 2600, so non-OC Intel vs lower-ish clocked Ryzen, it's really the ITX motherboards that'd be the difference, as @dizmo highlighted. Maybe later in the year there'd be better ITX offers, but you have a lot more space in the Intel camp.

In the actual performance space, it'd take close testing, but unless you do something that really needs the extra threads, the performance is going to be very similar. (You have to match Intel with a 1080 Ti to really pull out a difference of any sizable amount that's worth the cost difference in Gaming.) So your real consideration is simply fitting into the case, which, as mentioned, is a lot easier to find high quality motherboards for with Intel.

Or this

Is lagging behind on, feature wise?

Both cpu is good buy the cheaper cpu

if you have 1080p 144hz monitor intel better

if higher than 1080p

go with ryzen

but wait videos rating watch more ( still new cpu )

just wait

I do not know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone

It would probably be equal in gaming

But overall there's no reason to replace your 4790K for gaming unless you want to get 8 cores with Ryzen.

Unless your current system is breaking down.

In regards to the 'lacking itx options' for AMD, I would agree with the sentiment.  That's not to say there aren't any options, but a lesser ecosystem often results in poorer support due to a lack of competition and the difficulty of engineering the chipset on ITX.

If you don't mind taking the chance, it's a cool little proposition to have an affordable high core count system.  I'd like to see more options eventually.

As for the OP's question, they're both good, but your 4790k is also probably as good, especially with DDR4 prices.

If you're playing at 60 or 75 fps, go with the Ryzen as the extra FPS from the Intel won't matter but the extra threads might become more useful in the future, plus you have the option of overclocking if you change your mind. If you're playing at 144+ fps, go with the Intel as it delivers higher and more consistent frames. If you're playing at 100 or 120, there are variables to consider, but basically if you're going to do any streaming or video capture/editing, the extra threads of the Ryzen would be helpful, otherwise Intel.
