That's because police in the UK do their jobs, mostly, and because the population is small enough and condensed enough for fast response times.

It's because their British and cultural forces are, generally, extremely strong. (For good or for ill.)

We could even run with "Middle Eastern Woman attacks American Tech Company Employees", in this instance.

There's also a fairly large, local animosity between the Silicon Valley companies and the locals. http://www.bbc.com/news/technology-42738709 Like, real, big animosity.

And people up in my region of the UK (west yorkshire) say the force is weak. Probably due to all the idiots we get prank calling.

Story time:

I have some family in the states, more specifically Texas. One of my aunts married an American (Latin origin but born and raised in Texas) and sadly he passed away a few weeks ago.

My dad went over there to help my aunt move from Tyler, TX. to be with the rest of the family on McAllen, TX since she doesn't wants to be by herself up there now plus I'd be nice she has company and all.

Long story short my dad was packing the stuff to move and sell and he was quite shocked at the amount of Firearms my late uncle owned. We're talking multiple high powered rifles including an M14, several shotguns and a backpack filled with hand guns includying several .50 cals and not to mention what he described as enough ammunition to use them all simultaneously for days.

I always thought this was mostly a stereotype and not really indicative of your average rural American men to have a small arsenal, a chopper bike, etc. Just stored away but well someone in my immediate family turned out to have quite the arsenal. Of course he's what you'd call a responsible gun owner: Had his own restaurant, paid all his taxes, happily married until he unfortunately died of a heart attack.

But that still means that all of those guns that my aunt of course wants nothing to do with will be sold....private owner to private owner so no regulations, no background checks, etc.

Is it a problem that I say that shouldn't be so? It seems to be seeing how so many respond to even the slightest attempt to introduce gun control.

I think there should at least be basic background checks.

While I'm pro-gun, I won't deny that there needs to be background checks for private gun sales in all 50 states. Though the background check system also needs some work. (Which should be done rather soon with some bills that were passed recently)

The problem in for instance Texas or Utah is that the "culture" surrounding guns as opposed to other states is recreational in the same way you might consider camping or going to the beach. The people who are so vehemently opposed to considering gun control are these people because it's a direct attack on their lifestyle and they can't look at it any other way than as a black and white issue. In these places, you are NEVER going to introduce serious gun control without an enormous backlash because it's akin to suppressing their religion, for instance. For the rest of the states, I think the statistics speak for themselves. This is going to be a long lasting issue in the US and regulation is not going to be as easy or effective as it is in other countries because of the size and diversity between US states.

Need more gun control laws or outright ban, so that lawful people will be better equipped against criminals who have the intent to kill.

They should do the same as the UK imo: annual checks from the police to ensure you're storing the guns properly, eg one gun locker in the attic with your gun in it, securely locked and one ammo locker in your basement, safely locked away. They also check your mental health status before you're even allowed a gun.

A statistic on stabbings isn't particularly useful unless you can compare it, PER CAPITA, to that of another nation, usually the nation you are drawing comparisons with in the first place.

Though a critical comparison would be the overall murder rates.  In the United States the murder rare is 4.88 per 100 000 citzens where as in the United Kingdom the murder rate is 0.92 per 100 000 citizens.  ...So you can't exactly make a solid argument that British aren't, by one means or another, doing a better at keeping their citizens from killing each other than the United States is.

Come Bloody Angel

Break off your chains

And look what I've found in the dirt.

Pale battered body

Seems she was struggling

Something is wrong with this world.

Fierce Bloody Angel

The blood is on your hands

Why did you come to this world?

Everybody turns to dust.

Everybody turns to dust.

The blood is on your hands.

The blood is on your hands!

Pyo.

We're a smaller country so you could argue that we aren't doing a better job and that actually represents a larger portion of our population.

I can't tell if this is a trollish joke or if you actually don't know what 'per captia' means and typed a response anyway. o.O

That's london. You get some right nutters down there, trust me. And they say us northerners are rough.

I know you were talking about all of the UK, I was just trying to point out to the thread in general that things are never cut and dry like the media makes them out to be. There are nearly limitless factors involved in every situation.

- ASUS X99 Deluxe - i7 5820k - Nvidia GTX 1080ti SLi - 4x4GB EVGA SSC 2800mhz DDR4 - Samsung SM951 500 - 2x Samsung 850 EVO 512 -

I hear stabbings are pretty hot though.

37,443 knife offenses and 6,694 gun offenses from Jan to Sept 2017 (https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/5251268/london-stabbing-knife-crime-rise-statistics-uk-deaths/)

And cars, they just started running people over over there because they can't shoot them.

Youll never hear about that mainstream though, remember, it's the guns that are problem, not the people.

Fanboys are the worst thing to happen to the tech community World. Chief among them are Apple fanboys.

They should do the same as the UK imo: annual checks from the police to ensure you're storing the guns properly, eg one gun locker in the attic with your gun in it, securely locked and one ammo locker in your basement, safely locked away. They also check your mental health status before you're even allowed a gun.

I wholly agree that things like this should be happening more often because they don't inhibit normal people's rights to firearms. The reason the subject is so controversial is because people on both party lines look at the phrase "gun control" and assume the extreme case scenario without reading into the actual intent or meaning of it on a case by case basis. The same exact thing happened to "net neutrality". People can't look at or even describe an issue or discussion without completely polarizing it either way because we just use stupid buzzwords to describe them.

In the United States the murder rate is 4.88 per 100 000 citzens where as in the United Kingdom the murder rate is 0.92 per 100 000 citizens.

Now, remember, you are a member of a species of glorified monkeys that could build rockets to go to the moon and master the destructive force of the atom.  You can definitely comprehend these words.  Do your best.
