This is gonna cost a lot but meh... No point in really buying them except for high end servers. Nevertheless, interesting news.

I am more interested in seeing the 8 or 10 core desktop processors.

Case: Phanteks Evolve X with ITX mount  cpu: Ryzen 3900X 4.35ghz all cores Motherboard: MSI X570 Unify gpu: EVGA 1070 SC  psu: Phanteks revolt x 1200W Memory: 64GB Kingston Hyper X oc'd to 3600mhz ssd: Sabrent Rocket 4.0 1TB ITX System CPU: 4670k  Motherboard: some cheap asus h87 Ram: 16gb corsair vengeance 1600mhz

well in the article they said they will simply pile on more cores with existing architectures. Just imagine a next gen i7 with 8 haswell cores and 16 threads. Not sure it that will be the case but that would definitely be awesome.

Nothing for a long time, even the slowest processors today are incredibly fast. Everyday software needs to start pushing processors harder.

I think he means what would you do with that extra processing power? It won't benefit games much if at all. The only real beneficiaries are in the professional and enterprise spaces.

No one would stop you from paying the 5-6k asking price for an 18 core chip we would just all think that you're dumb.

The more cores, the more simultaneous actions you can do correct? 

 

Why would having more processing power be bad?

 

For anyone who runs servers, specifically multiple servers at the same time this is a dream. Imagine

being able to run a game, its server, a voip and game clients at the same time. Saying more cores are

not needed is foolish, just because you, yourself don't have a use for it does not mean others would not.
