Could computers be conscious?

nowadays computer chips have millions of little parts, and computer code is so complex, do you think its at all possible that our most advanced machines could have their digital soul?

 

Or am i just going crazy...

Souls are not a real thing so no because they don’t even exist in the real world. But with computers being smarter then humans I’m sure they could create a “soul” for them via code. I mean look st all the stuff you can do with code you can’t do in the real world.

i had no idea what that was, but wikipedia says it's a religious believe. Soul is a religious thing, it was no use in science.

To the question, no, computers much like anything else including humans don’t have souls. However “souls” aren’t what makes humans unique, being able to have this discussion is something that sets us apart.

 

So a computer can’t have a soul, but eventually with enough programming and complexity, could they dream?

Well I don’t think a “soul”, whether an actual thing or merely a man made construct, is a “religious” thing. Sure it’s concept found in most religions l, but the concept isn’t strictly related to a religion.

If you ask me, yes they can to a point... I have a machine that you could think it has a conscience... my old Amiga (20+ years old).

 

That machine is so bonded to me, it wouldn't be getting used by others... once a friend tried to use it, and it went into a guru meditation fault... (kind of bluescreen). Then he told me my machine was broken. I asked what he did, and did exactly the same. It worked without any issue. 

Reboot, letting him do it again, guru meditation fault, then my turn again, worked like a charm.

 

Another thing, a coworker tried to print, while I thought well please don't use up all my ink, and the Amiga said "can't find my color mixer, no printing today" ... Well back home with the machine it printed like there was nothing wrong.
