Don't lump me in with them. I'm an enthusiast of mechanic design, be it engines, weaponry, or productive machinery. Not a guy with a wrench that reads the marketing garbage AFE/insert other "enthusiast" brand that can't legally warranty half of their products.

I fail to see a correlation between people screeching variations of "forced induction is more efficient!!! Reclaimed energy!!!" and anything I've said.

If you can't be civil. Please leave

Edit. That goes for everyone in the thread

it seems like it that way. i've seen drivers of solstices/saturn skys. they always look uncomfortably low in a big body convertible. however the protege is the same as the miata. even in the protege, i feel taller than normal, and even though my head is like 3 inches from the roof, it actually feels much roomier than the corolla, and since passengers in the protege sit pretty high, combined with my pretty tall height, i can actually see the front of the car, like the actual front, from the drivers' seat.

yeah.. sitting higher up is great for autocross too... makes it easier to position the car closer to cones and make use of the whole track because every inch matters!

which is also why I can't understand how the guy in that mustang I always see with a mailbox-style hood does so well... props to him lol

plus i like the protege because it doesn't have those annoying thick a and c pillars, so visibility is so much better than in the corolla, because it doesn't need airbags in the a pillar.

i can agree with that! My corolla had thin a-pillars but the miata's are even thinner lol

Somehow pedestrians still manage to hide behind them tho... a little annoying in parking lots. I think it's just because the car is so small, even tho the pillars are small it's just not the right "ratio" of a-pillar size to car size

my only gripe with this car is that the speakers are actually kinda crap compared to the corolla's despite being made by pioneer. maybe in the future i'll upgrade the door speakers, including the tweeters, and maybe i'll even consider throwing in a sub in there.

The miata's isn't that great either.. And neither is the Audi's lol

i must not like bose (not gonna say I don't like everything bose, but car speakers seem to be not their strong point) because they make both. The audis is a little better but I think that's only because it's newer

both are just too muddled... I know they try for the bass thing but rather than making it fun and punchy they just drown out everything else...

actually our suburban has bose too... That one isn't that bad, in fact I actually like it.

You tend to learn how wide and long your car is after a while. My camaro has a low seating position.

Q1aCFPUl.jpg

Took a little while but now i know where all the four corners are ^^

Would probably do fairly well in autocross events if i manhandled it around the course. Shame i can't find out..

Hoping for some track days when i've changed the rear axle though. Mantorp and Rudskogen would be really fun with this.

Everything from T3 to T14 looks fun. The straights won't be that great in my car. T1 would probably involve quite a bit of butt clenching as i'd use up a lot of my brake pads xD

So ever since I bought my car there's been a small piece of trim missing.

Easy fix you would think. Pop a few screws out, put the trim in, and you're done. Wrong. More difficult than  ever need be. Because Saab.

well i mean, it's oem stuff, typically they're not that good. i'd upgrade it tbh, but seeing you don't really listen to music in your car (do you?), it might not be that big of an issue. but i wouldn't mind the bass at the expense of mids and highs. i mean i kinda set bass on double the levels of mids and trebles.

i say don't bother with factory and just get a slim powered one that fits under the seat. oem subs, especially those from the 80s, aren't good compared to aftermarket solutions. i suggest something like this. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_109BASPROS/JBL-BassPro-SL.html?tp=114. either that, or get a slim enclosure, and just get a shallow mount sub, though it might not fare too well in limited spaces.

See, the problem is that a sub like that one is $250. Does it at least have an amp built in? So I can literally just plug it into the existing harness and throw out the garbage I have in there now?

Literally had the scariest experience

I was driving home from eating at a restaurant with my sibling in the car, and then all of sudden as I shifted gears the throttle response stopped and the check engine light came on. Luckily I was very close to home and could coast most of the way, had to push it the rest of the way since the engine would not stay alive and kept backfiring.

Didn't help that it was raining so I had to move a ton of shit out of the garage quickly so I could see what went wrong. Right as I was about to jump the diagnostics plug to see what the check engine light would tell me, I noticed the MAF sensor had fallen off the intake body. Plugged it back in (and made sure the clips that keep it in were in place) and the engine started right back up.

smh

It's missing the trim that covers the linkage

no, but i think you're better off getting your own amp, since the ones that have built in amps only provide like 125 or so watts RMS, so i think you're better off getting a separate amp, and you can have the compact speaker under the drivers seat, and the amp under the passengers seat. i think they provide wiring for an external amp.

but if you don't like that, here's one with a built in 150 watt amp. http://www.crutchfield.com/p_20611HS8/Kicker-11HS8.html?tp=114 and it's by kicker, so you're sure to get some good performance. though today's the last day it's on sale, after today it ramps up to 300 bucks.
