Do not buy a HP laptop

So I haven't had the best track record with HP, as you can probably tell from my previous posts.

I sent my laptop in for repair on the 17th January (only 5 days after I received it, I started the repair 30 minutes after I received it but was going away for a few days so couldn't have it picked up) because the 5 key in the numpad did not fuction, as well as a problem with the screen. Due to a shortage of parts, I have only just received the laptop back today, which I would have been fine with, had they informed me about the part shortage before I had to ask where my laptop was as the repair was supposed to take up to 9 days.

After using the laptop for a few minutes, I noticed that the - key was not sitting flush, so I tried to click the key into place thinking it just wasn't put together properly but it appears as though one of the clips that holds the key cap into place has snapped.

This is really irritating as it was the whole keyboard deck that was replaced and according to the checklist, it was working (which it clearly wasn't).

I'm certainly glad I didn't just sell the laptop as I would have had to deal with someone returning it to me after they found the problems.

At this point, I have completely lost faith in the HP repair service as every time I have had a laptop repaired, it has came back with a different problem.

I have a HP laptop with 12 gigs of ram and 2+1 gigs of GPU and i can't even get to 60 fps on CS:GO. To be honest, HP laptops suck.

I have never had many issues with HP laptops. I had 2 DV 6000 laptops. There was a recall on them and they repaired both of them. No issues with them after that. I have 4 HP laptops and no problems with them...as far as hardware.

you are preaching to the choir! my mum bought a new hp 2 and 1 for the store, (hp spectre to be exact), last year and its been nothing but trouble. wifi flat out doesn't work, usb or Ethernet wifi works sometimes, and to top it all off its slow as all hell. this is one of their top of the line models, too! (i7, 16gb ram)

my experiences with the brand really didn't help it, as they "fixed" it multiple times, which actually resulted in a never-ending windows update and the breaking of the usb-wifi support...

Literally as I posted this I had a phone call from the Executive Customer Relations Team asking if I had received the laptop back yet.

I explained the problem and they are going to see if I can just be sent the key cap instead of having to send the whole laptop in for repair again.

I'm awaiting a phone call from another department now to see if it can be done but I'm not holding my breath.

Personally I haven't had a lot of problems with HP laptops. There's one Compaq Presario V6000 (in my description) which GPU dies sometimes, but little heating up and it's good to go. Other than that laptop I also had 2 HP laptops from 2006 which worked great, but are sold now. I had a HP Omnibook with a Pentium MMX 233MHz and it worked fine for it's age, but I also sold it :/. I have a HP 625 which is working fine and is up for sale ;). My main laptop is a HP EliteBook 8470p, which is also great for what I use it for and is pretty well-built (well it's a business class laptop after all). Though all of these laptops have been bought second hand without warranties.

you want reliability? you get a dell. you want performance? you get a dell. you want customer service? you get a dell.

i've had my alienware 17R3 for abour four years now, and it can still run GTAV at 60fps on high. it has an i7, 32gb ram from the factory, a 980M, and a 1TB HDD. that hdd is the only downside, as it slows the booting process, but it still only takes a few seconds to start.

might i mention due to it being a giant metal brick it is indestructible? i've never had any mechanical problems with it, all the leds still work, not a single key sticks, and it works great on wifi. its fallen off of a few tables in its lifetime, not a scratch. its a tank, and its amazing.

the only problem i've ever had with this laptop was a glitched screen after being in sleep mode, i talked to the support, (as my warranty lasted for five years on this thing!) and they told me i needed a bios update, told me how to do it, and voila! five minutes later, the problem was gone. now thats customer service!

buy a dell.

I have a G7 right now that is my main laptop. I have used it to what should have been to its death. Left on for weeks at a time.....carried all over the place. I have 2 Porbook 4530S and 1 Probook 4720s. All these have been great and they are second hand old laptops. Other then software issues...due to my own doings....no problems.

well maybe a lack of reliability is a new thing for HP, sort of like Tesla's production issues.

my old hp flip screen (from a few years ago, not the spectre) worked great and never had issues, now that i think about it... what happened HP?... what happened?...

I had a Dell before my last HP, and my experience was worse than HP!

I had a problem with the trackpad, so I had it replaced, the new trackpad didn't sit flush so they replaced the wrist rest, but that didn't work so they replaced the trackpad again and it still didn't sit flush. In the end they took the laptop to inspect and refused to send me the laptop back. They wouldn't give me a replacement laptop, and sent the seller I bought it from a refund of how much they paid Dell so I didn't even get a full refund for the laptop! The only upside was they sent out a technician to repair the laptop so I didn't have to be without a laptop

Old products are usually more robust and hold up well to the elements. (That goes for most products)

However, manufacturers have switched to 'cheaper' components for a plethora of reasons.

Maybe that's why the newer products break every so often, or just don't work properly.

Yeah they want us to buy more. I have old computers here that should have been dead years ago...like my Commodore 64 from 82. Out lasted everything else. By todays standards....it should have been dead in 85. LOL

makes sense, same thing (sort of) with diesel-gate, everyone seems to be cheating to get ahead...

but thats just the world we live in.

I had a 2008 Dv4 that lasted until barely out of warranty before the iGPU went kaput. I later had a DV7 from 2010 that is still alive and in service today. (It got a SSD when the oem drive failed, and later a cpu upgrade).

So just a bit of inconsistent quality there...

My eyes see the past…

My camera lens sees the present…
