So this is where all the GPUs have gone

Damian.Byrne

Wondering where all the graphics cards have gone from store shelves? I think I might have found them all ^^

https://www.adverts.ie/graphics-cards/sapphire-rx-580-8gb-special-edition-24-cards-for-mining/14714235

Long story short, a second hand buy and sell site in Ireland has a listing for TWENTY FOUR RX 580s for the low low price of 17,000 euros! Any takers? B|

(In case anyone is wondering, no, it's not me who' selling them).

If I had 17k euros, I'd spend it on travelling, not buying that many videocards. What a nice dream to be having.

i googled the USD msrp of those cards, converted it to euro's, shorted it to 2 decimals behind the comma, and multiplied it by 24...

*drumroll*

€4217.28 is what they cost at msrp...

Or just divide 17000 by 24. It's 700 euros per card approximately which is way more than msrp.

Really? I went onto Newegg, where I found a listing for the 8GB 580, which is $730.65. In euros, that's €586.28. Times 24 equals €14070.72. So yeah, bit of a rip off.

now that crypto has crashed and it's gonna get worse before it gets better, there might be a chance of miners rushing to sell the cards ahead of herd to recoup the cost of buying those cards in bulk. Not holding out for it though.

My friend who mines with 71 1080 Tis pretty much told me that most miners are gonna hold onto the cards until about a month or so before the next gen.

Probably.

Honestly I hope it crashes completely, this GPU shortage is getting really annoying even with local listings like mine.

I was at a Canada computers store here yesterday and the return line was filled with people returning piles of videocards. Sadly those people didn't read the notice that said no refunds under any circumstances unless cards were DOA. I hung around, saw tons of people leaving the store with the same cards they walked in with.

this is basically what i expected with the ether drop yesterday, the miners are quick enough to buy out the gpus so they should be quick to return too. The equation is simply with the cost of the gpu-the proceeds from reselling the gpu, and since they are used it's actually a race to sell first. Same logic to them in and get out. It's gonna be a bloodbath. Whoever's late selling their gpus will take a HUGE loss that may not cover their costs, since it's only been a month since the latest gpu raid.

Exactly. I'm very happy with the way things have been going though. The store has restocked nearly all of its high end video cards. And though they are pretty costly, at least I know everyone in the store... Hehehe :)

I certainly hope it hurts big time ... and teaches a lesson.

You realize most people that mine got into awhile ago and their gear is paid off. Only the people who heard about it in the news and think they could get rich overnight still have overhead. So there won’t be any loss selling cards that a year or 6 months past roi. Money made in 3 days can buy a $1000 gpu and not sweat it.
