CPU Cooler Performance Tier List

On 7/9/2021 at 12:07 PM, Jeppes said:

You should really take a look at the test systems used too. 9000- or 3000-series is ok and 11000K/5000X even more relevant. Most people are buying stuff for new cpu:s so a cooler made to fit perfectly on a 7700K heatspreader might not be the best choice for 5950X. 7700K also has quite low wattage if you compare to +200W cpu:s so those tests wont even tell what numbers you can expect with current flagship cpu:s.

How the coolers are tested are always taken into consideration.

Most reviewers reuse data with older cpus so they don't have to retest all of their coolers for every new cpu. When comparing reviews, look for results with similar sockets if not similar cpus.

Quote

So a tier1 cooler that most people run on a high wattage system should not be tier1 because some incompetent moron tested it with a ryzen 1200 and it performed well.

If there's anything on the list that seems to have this issue, please point it out.

Yep, don't have enough review data.

The SE-224 XT Basic is already in a tier above the Gammaxx 400 V2.

Consider adding Deepcool Gammaxx 400 Pro to the list.

From online reviews it seems better than vanilla 400 , 400 XT and 400 v2.

It is becoming somewhat popular in SEA region especially India.

Product link to deepcool official website

Added to the list. It seems similar to the Gammaxx 400 XT but there isn't a lot of data on either.

Hi hi!

i have a Silverstone PF240 that have start doing some weird water noise (Yeh i have dismounted, moved and tilted it, also one of the fans seems failing) with only 5 months old or so, and have the option to change for MSI MAG 240R for free.

Worth it or i should look for other? Been looking at tier list and reviews and i can't find much information.

Regards.

There's nothing particularly special about the MAG 240R so it seems fine. If it comes with warranty, that's even better. Are there other free options available?

It comes with 2 year warranty new product. Silverstone PF240 cost me 60€, the only exception with higher price is the MSI. The other free options are tier 4/5, so i think the MSI was the best option available. If i want any other i have to pay the difference.

The other "problem" i have is that my case, Corsair 220T, it only fits 240mm at top, or 280mm risky because size and rams (Crucial Ballistix, near to touch each other and they are like low profile).

Anyway, tell me good options and i will try to change it if seller still let me do it. For example, if i piack Arctic II 240 i would have to pay 35-40€ extra and i don't think it's worth in this case

Regards.

What cpu are you cooling and what other options are available? If the MAG 240R is free to swap to, it's certainly not a bad choice.

Looks like update on the SE-207-XT: https://www.techpowerup.com/review/id-cooling-se-207-xt-black/

What do you make of this?

The cooler stays in its tier and the ˀ is now removed.

If you meant that it seems like a new variant, the SE-207-XT Black is the only one available. The 'Black' is left in or out depending on the article / review but it's always on the packaging.

Got the MAG 240r today, just mounted it and checked... No improvements in temps, just the same, but there is a weird noise coming from pump at any speed, thats seems "normal" in this AIO after look for some info in google. Going to send it back and get Corsair H100i Capellix, its 50€ extra cash but i think is a win-win (Going to see also if i can fit a H115i but i doubt it)

PD: Arctic 240 perhaps won't fit and hit my memories cause his thicker radiator.

Just would like to report that an original Arctic Liquid Freezer II 120 (before they improved the mounting system's ease of installation) is able to keep a Ryzen 7 5800X running at +200MHz PBO under 90°C when the room temp stays under 72°F. Throttle temp for the 5800X is 95°C.

Perhaps you can add stock coolers to the tier list so newbs like me can see it as a reference point whether an aftermarket solution will give a better solution

The stock coolers worth mentioning are already on the list. Which one is the list missing?

Many coolers in tier 2 were in tier 1 until some time ago, right? What happened that many moved down a tier?

Tier 1 split into the new Tier 1 and 2 for better granularity. Everything else shifted down one tier.

Oh ok that makes sense. How much of a difference in performance is generally expected between a tier 1 and tier 2 cooler? Minimal?

Also, where would you place the Corsair h150 RGB (without the "i")?

This one:-

There isn't a general performance gap between tiers. There are always some coolers in Tier 1 could be in Tier 2 and vice versa. It's a performance gradient and the tiers are convenient separations.

As for the H150 RGB, I'll have to wait for reviews. If it scales anything like the H100 RGB in this review, it's probably equivalent to the H150i RGB Pro in cooling. https://www.tech-critter.com/corsair-h100-rgb-liquid-cpu-cooler-review/

It probably wouldn't be a big improvement. What are you cooling and what are your current temps?

Thank you for the answer! I have a Core p3 as case, tuf 3080 as gpu with a 10700k with little oc! My temp are 43/45 idle but reach 80° when playing warzone  and it is worring me!

I love my Deepcool 360ex. I honestly find I find it interesting how the Deepcool TFS fans are good but their only flaw is how bad their max RPM sound is and the fact the TF140S can't be found in Canada. If only fanless aio's were a thing
