Anybody been following the Syrian Civil War?

This is an inflammatory topic that really doesn't belong on Linustechtips.

It could start all sorts of arguments.

If the mods decide to lock this thread I will understand fully. I'm happy to see some of the viewpoints by my fellow forum members after silently following the subject for so long. I think we've done a good job at keeping the discussion civil so far and I'm grateful for how tolerant the mods have been so far.

True, after all i have been through i realized that u cant keep on helping everyone.

If u do u'll lose yourself bits by bits till no more of u left, now i am sure positive people keep saying that if u help people u'll be rewarded for your deeds but that is not always true, reality is different. its a cruel and nasty place.

And sometimes there are certain things that better left unexplained because the less u see the world the happier u'll be.

Just worry about yourself and your loved ones and if the world will burn then let it burn,it will be a better place without human in the first place anyway.

One of the biggest wishes for my life has for some time to simply be able to leave the world a better place than I found it. The world does seem to have its own plans sometimes though. Sometimes you can never win, but you sure can try.

Here's a more sober contextualizing of the conflict in Syria than the fictional narrative peddled by US and Western MSM:

"In the end I never imagined seeing the “left” siding with the AlQaeda of Sept 11, mourning the fighters of Aleppo and, aside from such independent journalists as Robert Fisk, spreading all manner of concoctions."

I'm curious why anyone from the "left" would support IS, al sham etc. as opposed to the YPG with their far more socialist leanings and who I strongly support.

It looks to me as though Russia and America have abandoned the Kurds to their fate. My guess being that the US doesn't want to lose its ally-of-convenience Turkey.

And Russia, well who knows.

And Russia, well who knows.

Both Syria and Russia have protested Turkey's uninvited offensive against the YPG along and within Syria's borders. However, Turkey's actions help Syria and Russia's interests, and work against the US':

Both Syria and Russia are against violating Syria's sovereignty, and against anything that would threaten the territorial integrity of Syria. The US, on the other hand, is desperate to save face in Syria, and to still somehow accomplish its underhanded goal of regime change in Syria. The US was wanting to support the Turkish border force in Syria because doing so created a rival authority to the Syrian government, and effectively would make parts of Syria unaccessible to the Syrian government. It could also lead to creating a new state (as that's the goal of the Kurds who comprise the border force) that annexes Syrian territory, along with Turkey Iran, and Iraq territory, which would weaken those countries and create turmoil and demoralization within countries the US wants to harm, and possibly give the US an opportunity to manipulate the new Kirdish country that would be created.

Of course, Syria, Turkey, and Russia all do not want any of that to occur.

So, while Syria and Russia protest, out of principle, for PR, and, in Syria's case, also surely out of a sense of violation of Syria's sovereignty, they both might be relieved that Turkey is doing this, as Turkey's handling of the US' favoured Kurdish border force proxy does ultimately serve the interests of Syria and Russia, while undermining the US' and foiling the plot that the US was just recently banking on to be its next move against the Syrian government.

The US can probably see that Turkey isn't intimidated by or afraid of the US at all, with Erdogan being willing to call the US out on its BS, and that unless the US wanted to start a war with fellow NATO member Turkey, the only option the US has is to back away and make token PR statements of disapproval from a distance.

The US back-stabbed its NATO-ally Turkey when it failed to stop supplying arms to the YPG, and when it announced support for the Kurdish border force along the Turkey-Syria border. And now the US is betraying the Kurds in not being there for them as Turkey attacks them. I doubt that any country in the Middle East, and even most of the world, trusts the US anymore.

  • 2 months later...

Wanted to visit this thread again. A lot has happened in the Syrian war since the last time I posted here. Turkish backed rebels captured Afrin, a regional capital of the Kurdish YPG. The Kurds appear to have retreated to Tall Rifat which is held by YPG and pro-government forces and their Russian allies. Last I heard Turkey was making claims they would attack this as well, but the last thing I heard was Turkey discussing possible operations with Russia and not being able to make an agreement. Meanwhile many YPG Guerilla attacks and ambushes have been launched against Turkish rebels in the region of Afrin.

Government forces have been clearing rebel held portions of damascus suburbs of Jihadist rebels and have cleared one of the major highways that had been under siege for 7 years. It's like I'm looking at clips of Stalingrad in the aftermath of WWII.

Government forces drop chemical weapons on the innocents, rebels troops plundering the countryside, terroists and bandits terrorizing uncontrolled territories while foreign powers with their own agendas meddle at the expense of the civilians. You know... the usual case of a fail state.

 fail state.

That's certainly the dream of US/EU leadership, Israel and Turkey. After seeing clips of Syrian Christians celebrating Easter I'm given hope that it can stay a foul dream.

Rephrase that to US Government. I think me and many other citizens are sicken and tired of fight wars that have no point.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I stopped following what was happening around 2013. Since then it's just been a thing that happens that I can no longer care about since there is so much else happening.

I'm not sure exactly how lenient the mods here are about current military situations

As per our Community Standards, political topics are not allowed on the forums.

More often than not they derail into personal insults and they're not the main topic covered by this forum, that would be tech.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)
