PUBG brings in Microtransactions Cosmos into loot boxes, prepare your wallets

PlayerUnknown’s Battleground’s second major post-release update is currently live on the test servers, bringing with it changes to how PUBG Corp handles cheating, performance, and balance tweaks. PUBG is also expanding its loot crates as well as possibly adding in a new type of microtransaction, but in a bid to minimalize controversy, it has also disclosed the drop rates.

Until now, loot crates in PUBG have been tame, with players unable to buy them with real-world currency. Instead, loot crates were bought with in-game currency called Battle Points, earned by performing well in matches. Now, PUBG Corp is introducing keys which cost £1.85 / $2.50 a pop to open a selection of premium loot crates. - Kit Guru

 

I mean can companies just stop with loot box keys for skins and shit, it's pretty boring at this rate.

Do these affect gameplay at all or does it just make a person feel better than others for having this item in addition to the aesthetic? If the latter is the case, it'll just be the same opinion I have of skins on CS:GO, I just don't care for it and that's that.

Doesn't affect gameplay at all. Jackets and stuff used to but not anymore

I don’t have a problem with appearance item loot boxes. Only when it affects the game. We pay $30 for a game and expect them to keep adding features, improving the game, improving and keeping servers running. All these things cost money. If you don’t want cosmetic items don’t buy them. If you want to support the devs and get something for it buy it. It’s that simple.

Its of my opinion that gaming is being destroyed by these types of transactions. PUBG is a broken and incomplete game, yet they use resources to sell MTX. Because of MTX I have not played any online multi-player games since 2010. Gaming companies don't want me as a player. They only players that are open to purchasing MTX. 

Test ideas by experiment and observation; build on those ideas that pass the test, reject the ones that fail; follow the evidence wherever it leads and question everything.

not just devs, everyone in a position of making a lot of money does it. but not buying a game becase they add microtransactions is really dumb to be honest (unless its pay to win and this is NOT). and honestly i dont think pubg needs anymore sales i doubt they would care if they sold zero more copies as long as players are still playing, those players will give them ten times the amount of money that you would buy only buying the game, you're just playing yourself if you do that.

This is not about the fact that they are making money. It's about how they're making money.

 

Doubling down and putting micro-transactions (of any sort) in a paid for product is just anti-consumer. I would have no issue if it was a Free To Play game as I've stated countless times in the Activision Blizzard Micro-transactions fiasco about Overwatch.

Oh definitely. Law makers are waking up and some are trying to set regulations to prevent games with loot boxes from being sold to minors.

Another loot box I will never buy.

 

My personal policy on this stuff is if I buy anything in game with real world money I need to know with 100% certainty what I get out of it. Since I don't know what item I'll get from a loot box I never spend real world money on it.

 

I wish more people would do the same so loot boxes would be unprofitable for devs.

As for CS:GO skins specifically, people destroy their lives just so they can have the best Steam Inventory. I sometimes play a match in CS:GO and people judge you based on your Inventory, that's gaming these days (it will make more sense if you watch the video). If you play well but don't have any skins, people will accuse you as a hacker since you don't risk your skins for the possibility of getting banned. I don't buy skins personally and I only play with friends on my team so the other team can accuse me all they want, I won't get vote kicked by my own team.

Doubling down and putting micro-transactions (of any sort) in a paid for product is just anti-consumer. I would have no issue if it was a Free To Play game as I've stated countless times in the Activision Blizzard Micro-transactions fiasco about Overwatch.

So how exactly are they going to keep paying for the servers if they dont have a revenue stream after initial sales..?

They could have provided good DLC.

I am completely fine with and actually sort of appreciate micro-transactions which don't affect gameplay.  Like these skins, as soon as micro-transactions affect gameplay, then I have a problem with it.
