I personally would get the Strix Z370-E or F.

Isn't it just like the prime-a just withc RGB and republic of gamers bios?

There are aesthetic differences too, but more or less. I personally tend to go for boards that do everything I need it to well while looking really good. I hadn't considered how similar they were until just now.

Best bang for the money wouldn't be asus. I mean they are amazing, but they do charge a premium because of the brand.

If you overclock, the Asrock mobos generally have way better price and as good quality, not to mention their bios are a overclockers dream.

If you want best performance for the money (without too much RGB), I would go for the ASRock Z370 Taichi.  It has a very good VRM.

I've considered this board but according to a list on reddit, the strix has better parts?

Quite frankly after researching this lots and even owning the i7 8700k on the ROG Strix-G (my case is mATX) I have come to the realization the i7 8700 is identical in real world performance for much cheaper, allows me to have a much cheaper board like the current D3H I am using, a simple Hyper 212X made my system cool and silent... I don't see the appeal for overclocking and at gaming it won't make a single difference outside 1080p resolution:

So I really don't see the appeal to spend a hell lot of money to run it at 5ghz when the stock/locked is just as good and so much cheaper which allows to afford the GTX 1080 Ti of your dreams.

Yeah I dunno, it is really attractive, the Asrock, with Taichi and all the components included for 200 while the maximus from Asus doesn't even have TB3 given the price and features.

The Taichi is a very valid alternative, between it and the Hero I'd still personally go with the Hero but I am perfectly comfortable advising it to you if its features will be well used by you.

Then again I go back to the point the unlocked i7 8700k is an expensive investment that ain't worth it to me personally, make sure to delid it or temperatures of itself will be a greater issue than motherboards VRMs power phases and what not.

I'll try to sum it up:

If you game at 60fps 1080p/1440p go with a r5 1600 or a i5 8400 with a 1060 or 1070 ti. you can save alot of money by going with r5 1600+stock heatsink+8gb ram instead of 16gb.

if u game above 100fps, go with a 8700/8700k

if u plan to game at 120hz+/4k next year, go with the 8700k

you can use a cheap board with the 8400/8700

if u plan to go with the 8700k, go with the asrock extreme4 (budget)/ taichi (all features u need) for overclocking, prime-A or strix-E (better vrm) if u like asus.

out of those 4 boards i prefer the taichi, even though i use 2 extreme4s because it was on sale for 140.

Asus boards have messed up stock voltages, you really have to change them, and their vrm is slightly worse than Asrock. LLC problems reported on the A and F.

Asrock boards, at least the extreme4 and the k6 sometimes have trouble with XMP so ull have to manually adjust the ram timings. Taichi has none of the problems listed above, but does have overkilled features and cost the most.

I only switched to asrock because asus didn't come out with a z370 sabertooth (my last 4 boards were sabertooths, 3 still running, 1 fried by a faulty gpu).

So you are biased against anything that's not Asus like more or rather don't deem them trustworthy reliable. And why does everybody on PCpartsticker buy the Strix... Maybe I should man up and don't be such a nonreflective fool.

I just told you to go with the Taichi since you have use for its features and I am biased against any thing that's not Asus? I currently have a Gigabyte motherboard?... eh?

Wish you good luck.

Asus is by far the biggest mobo manufacturer, and most people are comfortable with Asus boards.

They have an established motherboard line, the hero is for sure to oc with all the features, but it's overpriced as i like the taichi better. I would have stuck with Asus too if they didn't discontinue the sabertooth

i dont think they pay for it. even if they do they are probably comfortable with any big brands out there. dont make your decisions solely on what they use. all these pc components worth nothing in their eyes.

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

Yeah but how is people's experience with Asrock? Because the taichi costs as much as the Strix.

Well the tier list does rate the taichi on the same level as the hero, i have 2 extreme4 running in 2 systems, but they have both been running for less than 2 months, so i can't say how long it'll last.
