USB ports on a *bedside table

Recently i've decided a bedside table is essential if you own a wireless charger for a phone, but i'm too lazy to actually buy one. I've had this god-awful enermax eca-3250 ostrog for years and decided it's the perfect height for the job. my question now is how can i make it suck even less? what would it take to get the front io (only usb really) to work as a 2 Watt usb charger? (basically asking if there's an adapter or something that converts micro b or something to internal usb 2.0

(the single usb 3 port has been broken since i bought the case)

I dont want to be annying but you REALLY SHOULDN'T put the computer next to where you sleep...

Completely missing the point of the post, i want the case front io powered without putting a system in it. has nothing to do with samsung.

That's my plan but USB won't be strong enough to hurt anything. i've just had a type c cable laying on a carpet floor for months till the port broke.

Point is...? If it's just a USB hub, what's the issue? Most people have the USB charger for their phones near the bed anyways.

If you splice the USB header cable, solder it to a male USB connector and plug that into a USB charger, it might work.

If you plan to just have the case empty and bypass any need for a PC at all, I would recommend just buying a wireless charger and setting it on top of the case xD

Also, you claimed to be too lazy to just buy one but I don't think that's true since this project is going to be objectively more work than just buying a wireless charger, regardless of how you decide to solve it.  What you mean is you're too cheap to buy one :P

I plan on having more than just my phone plugged in on the table but without cables running all over it. and i already bought a wireless charger, amazon is taking forever to ship it. EVEN THOUGH I HAVE PRIME!

You can just cut the micro usb jack from a charger.

Inside, you'll have 2 or 4 wires ... if it's just two wires, that's your +5v and ground wires.  If it's 4 wires, it's 5v , ground and the two data lines.  The wires will most likely be colored.

The usb ports on your case go into some connectors like the one in the picture a few posts above ... the wires in those are always 5v (red) , data 1 , data 2 and ground (always black). The ground wire is always near the key pin (the lonely one without a pair) so even if all the wires are black, you can tell which wire is meant to carry 5v and which one is meant to be ground.

 

So just connect the wires from the phone charger to wires from the connector.

 

USB 3 ports on a case have a bunch more pins but basically you only need to connect at least the Vbus and ground wires to 5v and ground.

 

If the charger comes with 4 wires, you may connect the two data wires  to the D+ and D- pins in the connector below  ( D+ is LP+ on usb 2, D- is LP- on usb 2) and you leave those SSTX wires disconnected and unused.

I had my PC right behind my head on a desk when i slept for about 6 months. The other part is it was on WiFi, the signal literally pasted thru my head on its way to the router. The only reason I change is my bed didnt have a back board, so my pillows would fall between the desk and bed. I came out completely fine. 

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.

I would recommend just ripping internal cables off front panel or even whole panel. Then fixing either cables or whole powered hub behind there.

There's no radiation... well it's extremely small amount of radiation which is not harmful to humans and it's shielded by the computer case... the metal case acts as a Faraday cage keeping the tiny amount of "radiation" inside

 

It's not even the kind of radiation that's powerful enough to go through the human skin, even cellphones have to be inches near you to even have their transmissions go through the skin maybe a inch or so inside your body.

 

I think the radiation he's talking about is probably the kind old CRT monitors used to emit , them being cathode ray tubes there was a very small chance of some radiation to leak even though the front screen was shielded with lead and everything.

 

The only reason you wouldn't want a fully working pc near your bed would be the constant hum of fans ... some persons are more sensitive and in very long term you may get tinnitus in your ears. Power supplies can also sometimes have a small amount of coil whine, which could be annoying.

Others find the fan hum pleasing, like white noise, and they can even go to sleep faster with it.
