are extra mouse buttons useful

tJuggernaut29

so i have always used simple mice, currently using the mouse that came with my HP, and am looking to finally buy a good mouse.

so the question is

some mice have like a whole number pad on the side, some have just 2 or 3 more buttons, are these extra buttons actually useful, or just distractions for your hand? and is having like 10 buttons more distracting than just 3 extra or no extra? do people actually use the extra buttons?

Thanks

Depends on what you play. Mouses with millions of buttons are usually aimed at mobas. For FPS games, you only have a use for one or two extra buttons. For FPSs, I normally have one side button set to melee and the other to a useful game specific hotkey. I have no experience with Mobas or mouses meant for them so I can't help you there.

I find the side buttons insanely useful and honestly would never use a mouse without them. They allow quick access to important things in games (health packs, reload, etc) and when you're browsing it's a very fast back or forward button.

I have the 2 side buttons on the left mapped to copy/paste and the 2 on the right of the mouse as undo/redo - really useful in everyday applications and saves you having to reach for the keyboard as often.

Pretty sure they both have the basic features. If you don't know what a mouse with 10 buttons is for, you don't need it :P

i use a logitech g300s that has 6 extra buttons... i use it mostly for csgo but you can put profiles in it to make life easier.

the bhop btw is just repeated spacebars haha i still have to strafe on my own

d.PNG.51113767acea566a2f3cd0f14f6b8180.PNG

i use the extra buttons for the small important things like in pubg instead of constantly pressing T on the keyboard, i can just use my ring or middle finger to press the button on my mouse

do you find the extra finger buttons more annoying to get at than having 2 on the thumb?

i prefer the finger buttons than the thumbs because its easier for me and its more of a preference thing. some people like mice with the extra buttons on just the thumb side and some like it around.

well if you really want to get a new mouse with all the buttons, you might need to think about it first. like what are the possible uses for these buttons etc.

I have just 2 on the side and it's come to the point where I use them without even thinking and if they weren't there I feel awkward and limited, like if you tried to use a mouse without a scroll wheel.  I know personally I could easily go for 4 and make good use of them.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

I actually have keys mapped on my mouse for different things in Final Fantasy XIV, it worked out really well for me, but it depends on person to person what their preferences are or what they would be using the buttons for.

The G502 has the perfect amount of buttons for me. Everything to do with shooting or selecting and even just working with my vet software is done with the mouse and I feel strange without the extra buttons. It's to the point where my hospital desk looks like a gaming battle-station rather than a doctor's OEM off-the-shelf "it only needs to Google" PC.

Bruh, G402 is where its at; it fits like a glove. Its the same as the G502 but the scroll wheel feels like a normal scroll wheel. Its got five buttons on the side, and all are able to be pressed without hindering access to left/right click, but its also a bit heavy/solid.

It has really helped for focusing my left hand only on WASD / Q / E / R. Than any other awkward further away keys get assigned to my extra mouse buttons, and volume adjustment too. I don't think I could ever go back to not having them.

I don't find any use for more than two buttons, so I like the G703. Straightforward and has a really good sensor to boot.

In Overbotch I usually bind melee to the back button.

Changing fire rates on guns with TopLeftSideThumb button
COD Preset - Concussion on TopLeft, Grenade on BottomLeft

Even just forward and back in Web browsing...

Don't forget you can even download more software to get the most out of it... assigning macro's and shortcuts to anything is a great ability to have for ease of use.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz
