At that point it's usually the game's problem and not the 780's.

True. It is mostly due to bad optimization at that point, but we are not far away at all from games pushing it under 30 FPS on max settings at 1080P…

It definitely won´t rock all games for 3 years...

It should be fine for ~3 years before you'd want to upgrade.

You can never really keep up with technology unless you are rich and buy every new generation as it comes out. Unless nvidia has something big up their sleeve with the 800 series then get something from this generation. I used to think it was worth waiting but I found myself waiting for the next generation and the next one and so on...

Accidentally pooped my pants in the elevator.

I'm taking this shit to a whole new level.

lol, i can play most of my games in 1080p on med or high (not ultra) with smooth fps with an HD 6850, what the hell are you talking about? 780 would be a beast even for 1440p.

And what you consider "smooth FPS" is at what frame rate?

Seriously? Do you consider 30 FPS on semi-highest settings beast?

Also: What is "smooth" FPS to you? To me that´s 60 FPS plus, but this is subjective so what is it for you?

Exactly, there will always be some sort of release every 6 months, so you can wait forever in that aspect. The thing is though that a latest 80-series card is always powerful enough to last at least 3 years before you want to upgrade.

For exampel, the GTX 580 was released on November 2010 and the GTX 780 in May 2013. That's almost 3 years. That's what I always do. Skip a series. And think about it, to this day the GTX 580 is stil a decent card at 1080p. The same will be true of the GTX 780 in 3 years time.

So my next card will be a GTX 980. I'm skipping the GTX 880(unless off course i find a unresistable offer).

No it can't.

These are some of the most graphically intense games out today, and the GTX 780 handles them just fine on the highest setting with AA. And that is taking into consideration that three of these games are optimized for AMD. Butchered? As if.

I think I understand what you mean. You are not sure that the GTX 780 can last up to 3 years, and you think it will at best last up to 2 years. The thing is that no one really knows, but if the the pace of how graphics card have been improving is an indication then the GTX 780 looks likely to last 3 years.

No, that is definitely not true. That would be 3x as much as the Titan and 6x as much as the GTX 780's.  Even video games at 4K resolution using multi-monitor are just reaching the point of using 3GB of video memory.

If you cant wait the 4 months, then get a 780.  Personally I am going to try and wait until the 8 series to get a new card, but thats only if it comes out before Wildstar is released.  If Wildstar releases 2 weeks before the 8 series, then Ill get a 780ti instead probably.  If you can make do with what you have, then wait.  If not, then buy.
