Which PSU for 7980xe please?

marksmanguy

Hey everyone, which power supply will be okay for a  build with 7980xe, rampage extreme vi, 2 1080s?

I saw some similar builds with 1500w and was wondering if I absolutely need that or if I will be okay with perhaps 1200 or 1300 (EVGA 1300w) gold?  Thanks!

A EVGA 1300w Gold should be great.

If at first you don't succeed...

Call it version 1.0

Damn, you're paying more for import tax than you pay for the components. That's messed up

For two 1080s and a 7980XE I'd recommend a 1200W+ yes. Those chips use a ton of power if even mildly overclocked, and can hit 1000W if you LN2 overclock at 1.5V or so.

For you, 1200W is fine, and the EVGA 1300W suggested by a few should be fine.

Why would someone want an i9-7980XE without a gun to their head?!

Don't understand why you would buy that.

Especially since you can't overclock that chip much without voiding the warranty an 'heavily modding' it...

Don't buy that crap until Intel fixes the connection between Die and Heatsink!

It isn't soldered and with the heat that thing emits, you are totally limited by that garbage.

Get a Threadripper instead. Has soldered Die, more PCIe lanes, more cores...

If you buy this, Intel will never solder the Die to the IHS on Desktop products again!

They make more money, you void the warranty so if the chip dies you don't get a replacement from them - Win Win for them!

For you, it's loose, loose...

850W would be enough since that CPU is temperature limited.

But you can easily push 400W or more through it...
