Best GPU For Ryzen 7 1700?

nfolenius

Hey guys, I've recently built a PC. But I'm planning to get my final upgrades soon, planning to get a new power supply, new gpu, and a storage increase (A new case if I can afford it). Anyway, I am trying to decide what GPU I want, could I get a recommendation please? I want to get over 60fps, max settings (1080p) on any title, the reason I'm doing 1080p is because I'm going to stream on this computer, and it won't benefit to play on a resolution like that, as they won't watch it, and it'll have a performance hit. (I'll be streaming 1080p veryfast setting on OBS :) Thanks, (x264)) The main thing I'm looking for is the GPU, I can kind of just get whatever I want for the other stuff, but I'm thinking something along the lines of 1070, 1080, 1080ti, or RX Vega, what do you think?

Current Specs:

    AMD Ryzen R7 1700

DDR4-3000 (2X8GB) 16GB Corsair Vengeance LPX RAM (Black)

Stock AMD Ryzen Cooler (Wraith Spire RGB)

GTX 1050 Ti (Yes I know this is a bit of a bottleneck (Just another reason I'm getting a new GPU))

    MSI B350 TOMAHAWK ARCTIC Motherboard

It depends on what games you plan to play, 1050 Ti might be enough for some games that most people stream nowadays to hit 60 fps with.

If you stream with very fast settings then your graphics settings doesnt matter. It will still look crap.

triple a games (while streaming & ultra settings) and 1050 Ti really isn't enough for it.

I know this might sound retarded, but get the best card depending on your budget.

CPUs bottleneck refresh rate
GPUs bottleneck resolution/quality settings

a 1060/580 is fine for 1080p AAA games

1070ti/Vega 56 is overkill for it, but will be fine if you want the absolute max setting and aren't worried about price. Probably shoot for Vega 56 for cheaper free-sync options in the future.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Honestly I would go with a 1080 if you are going for 1080p max settings at higher than 60 fps on any game. The 1070ti doesn't make sense and the 1070 might struggle to push higher frames at max settings 1080p. I mean if you were shooting for 60 fps then that's a different story.

If you are shooting for max settings at 1080p and 60FPS a GTX 1060 would be the perfect choice.

If you want to go for max 1080p settings pushing well over 100FPS get the Vega 56, or GTX 1070 Ti

Agree to disagree, at first the 1070 Ti seemed stupid to me as well but now that I look at the price and the performance it gives (especially overclocked) it makes sense. I actually think it's a decent card (my opinion only, I am not saying you are wrong), and as someone who owns a newer model GTX 1080 I am actually kinda choked that the GTX 1070 Ti can OC and match a GTX 1080 at stock.

The price difference is small between the two if existing at all. Also the 1070 ti  is bandwidth starved so it doesn't make a whole lot of sense.

I'm running a 1070 with my R7 1700. Overkill? Yes, but I have 21:9 1080p, so more pixels to fill. Also, a 1070 keeps you set for 1080p max on just about anything for a few years yet, whereas the 1060 and 580 will fall off a generation or so earlier.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

I think for 1080p it makes sense, if we were talking 1440p I would get a GTX 1080 for sure. At least here in Canada you save about $100 by getting a 1070 Ti. Unless you get the Asus GTX 1080 turbo haha, then it's almost the same price. But if I compare a EVGA GTX 1070 Ti 8GB SC GAMING ACX 3.0 costing $650cad, to the EVGA GTX 1080 8GB Superclocked Gaming ACX 3.0 costing $740, that is $90 saved.

I know man, but if you look at some prices in Europe, and especially Australia and New Zealand. Canada doesn't have it so bad even if you factor exchange rate between currencies.

GTX 1070 would be great. A 1060 can do the job but a 1070 will last longer and give you extra overhead.

@JM21 i feel u I live in the us but the cad dollar SUCKS MAN the gtx 1070ti is 430$ over here and the 1080 (well the gtx 1080 duke) is 510$

Dude where do you see a 1070 ti in stock for 430? I see 450 as the lowest and those are all crappy cooler design ones. The cost difference between a decent 1070 ti and 1080 is only 40 bucks. Better off getting the 1080 as it does have better performance for not much more. Also the faster memory is going to be able to push the 1080 further while the 1070 ti is going to be bandwidth starved resulting in it being unable to reach its full potential.

I have zero issues running games at 1080p with my GTX 1060 (6 GB).

Space is pretty awesome.
